Watercooler: Constance McMillen – life after prom
Constance
McMillen moves on. You remember Constance? The openly gay
teenager who made headlines this May when her rural Mississipi high
school canceled the prom rather than allow her to bring her girlfriend.
Well, the 18-year-old is moving on.
McMillen
may have kicked off Pride month graduating high school in tears, but
she’s ending it with a bang! Her schedule is full of Pride events this
week, including a fancy White House reception hosted by President Obama.
Ooo la la!
On Tuesday, McMillen will attend the White House reception
for LGBT citizens in celebration of Pride Month.
Friday, McMillen
will be the guest of honor at a benefit concert in Woodstock, N.Y.
Proceeds from the event will go toward her college education, the American
Civil Liberties Union’s Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender and AIDS
Project .
Last, but certainly not least, on Sunday McMillen
will serve as a grand marshal in New York City’s gay
pride parade.
What a great turn of events for a deserving
girl! So happy for her.
Butt
Towels?! As if they could get any raunchier, Butt Magazine has recently released a line of beach towels for American
Apparel .
Each limited edition towel features a scantily clad Butt model, including porn star Arpad Miklos! A portion of the sale profits
will go to the Ali Forney
Center for homeless LGBT youth.
Well, at least they’re going
toward a good cause.
Watch a slideshow of the entire Butt collection at the New York magazine blog, The Cut .
Gaga
tells all. Lady G will grace the cover of the new Rolling Stone on newsstands June 23rd . In an exclusive interview with the
popular music mag Gaga spills the beans on everything from her struggle
with Lupus to finishing her new album.
My personal favorite? Gaga
goes on a small political rant and sounds off on DADT .
“Why
are we still talking about ‘Don’t, ask, don’t tell?” she said “It’s
like, what fucking year is it? It makes me crazy! And I have been for
three years baking cakes – and now I’m going to bake a cake that has
bitter jelly. The message of the new music is now more bitter than it
was before. Because the sweeter the cake, the more bitter the jelly can
be.”
Um, I think I get it. Do you?

Mr.
Gay UK, a rapist? West Yorkshire policeman and Mr. Gay UK
2006 winner Mark
Carter appeared in Leads Magistrate Court to face charges of sexual
assault and rape.
According to BBC , the charges involve four separate victims in
an incident last December. Carter was given bail and is set to appear
again on June 29th .
Wow.
Will Phillips is the youngest Grand Marshal ever in
Arkansas Pride , KFSM reports. The 10-year-old made national
news last year when he refused to recite the Pledge of Allegience until
LGBT people have full equality.
Since then, Phillips has received a GLAAD award and has become the official spokesperson for GetEQUAL . He will serve as Grand
Marshal for the Northwest Arkansas Gay Pride parade this weekend.
All the rest of your information is interesting.
