a person's life--more important than a lover, partner, spouse or
whatever name you may use. It is a friend you turn to when you are
having problems with the other half and it is friends you turn to when
you don't have another half! It is a friend who stops you from being
lonely which can happen in other relationships. It is friends who
accept you for who you are, warts and all, not like a partner who tries
(and often fails) to change you.
I didn't have friends until I reached my late teens (1956) and met Joe and Albyn who would be my mentors and lead to friendships with Joe
the Greek and every year after that I would have at least two close
friends at all times from Ronnie to Alex to my current friends today.
On
Tuesday John, Gino and I went to see a movie and then went to Cheddar's
to have a bite. On Wednesday Allen and I ran errands and then went for
lunch and a treat at Cold Stone afterwards. Neither day was life
changing or earth shattering but I couldn't think of a nicer way to
spend a day than being with friends. Friday is movie day and though
John and Gino aren't available to go Allen will pick me up and we will
go to LabCorp to have my blood taken for a procedure that I will be having done on Monday and then we will go to The Gateway theatre for a movie. Again nothing remarkable but a great way to spend a day.
Over
50 years I have met, spent time with and cherished many friends. Some I
lost to death like Michael and others have just disappeared while some
moved or I did. I often wonder what happened to Red, the other Michael,
Vinnie, Jerry, Perry and David. There are others that, though I haven't
seen them in years, still keep in touch.
I LOVE MY FRIENDS!!!!
