South
Florida is known for all the scams pulled on the old folks here BUT
little is said about the scam old people pull on the restaurants in the
surrounding area. They wait until they are almost finished their meal
and they start complaining--LOUDLY--about how bad everything was. They
know managers/owners will rush over in most cases and pick up their
checks--adding insult to injury, the old folks won't tip the servers! Let's just say that many restaurants share lists of people who have done this more than once!!
On
the other hand there are people like me who won't complain about bad
food but won't go back to that particular restaurant--we have far too
many restaurants not to get a good meal every time! The Quarterdeck
Restaurant has become a favorite of mine and Allen's and I wrote before
about the December specials--a different one every day of their best
dishes! I checked out their web site and I noticed that there was a
mistake so I sent an e-mail to the 'contact us' address.
Frank,
one of the owners, sent me a reply thanking me for pointing out the
mistake and said I should bring in the e-mail for a free drink. I
thanked him in return telling him that I don't drink and he answered
that being the case I should get an appetizer and dessert!
In between the food shopping on
Thursday Allen and I went there for a late lunch. After kidding John, a
new waiter, about losing the flip of the coin with Timothy, a young old
timer, he took our order and brought me coffee and Allen diet coke. I
told Allen to order the appetizer and I would order the dessert. He
picked the chicken fingers which were hot (temp wise), with a good
breading and honey mustard sauce on the side and delicious.
The
$7.99 that day was their jambalaya which Allen and I usually have on
Fridays. It is one of their specialties and one of the best I have ever
had. Since Allen doesn't like peppers I take his and he has the rice
while I have the pasta.
For
dessert I ordered the chocolate cake a la mode which comes with a heavy
fudge chocolate layer cake with chocolate chips and the ice cream is
vanilla bean. I almost forgot to take a picture it was so good!!
It
really was a good meal from beginning to end and the check came to
about $21. We left John a $9 tip--I think he was glad he lost the toss!
LOL
Between
the unexpected free appetizer, dessert at the Quarterdeck and the
surprise brownies from ZestofMemphis (have you checked them out yet?) I
think good guys finish first!
By
the way we went back on the following Thursday and had the Chicken
Francaise --I had the rice and Allen had broccoli--it was good!
We
have 8 other specials to try but only 1 Thursday left plus Allen is
going up north the last week of the year so we are going to have to go
to the Quarterdeck a few more times this coming week!
