Having a car (for 3 more
days!!!!) I was able to sneak off to the movies today and I decided to see
"Fantastic Mr. Fox". (Not only did I have a car but with the movie rewards I,
also, got a free large popcorn and soda! LOL)
First of all I have to say George Clooney more than
makes up for "The Man Who Stares At Goats" being the voice of Mr. Fox. He really
does an excellent job. I am not particularly a fan of Meryl Streep (is that
being sacrilegious?) but without seeing her annoying face mannerisms she was
quite pleasing as Mrs. Fox.
As far as the rest of the
voices--from Jason Schwartzman, Bill
Murray, Willem Dafoe, etc.--all fit
their characters with an exceptional job by Eric Anderson as cousin Kristofferson.
The problem I had with the
film was that after seeing such great animated films done by Pixar this is almost going back to basics,
not in a professional way. There are many digging scenes which are really too
similar and the animals didn't come across as individuals as they even do in
Disney pictures and other animated films.
The material seems to be a little darker than usual
for an animated film and I don't know if it is for children and adults or just
adults. There is a scene with a wolf which I know was suppose to be threatening
to the foxes but it was almost a throw away scene that could be cut and nothing
would be missed.
I'm glad I saw it but if I hadn't I wouldn't have
missed anything.
