Watercooler: Texas Republicans want gays in jail

By James Withers,

  • Texas Republicans want you in jail. Have to
    give the Lone
Star State GOP props for outright boldness. Sure the Supreme Court nixed

anti-sodomy laws with its 6-3 Lawrence

    v. Texas
    decision, but Texas

    Republicans
want to turn back the clock. They also want to
    it be a
felony for anyone to issues a marriage license to a same sex couple. A
    felony.
    Classy.

  • An ex-gay proves he’s not much of one. Look at
    this story
of the Rev. Tom Brock, the senior pastor at Hope Lutheran Church
    in North
Minneapolis. It gets his goat that gays are anywhere near the ELCA, the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. So much so that he took his
    church out
of the organization. But Brock is a former queen. Not a good one though.
    He had
a trip to Europe and got some same sex love. It wasn’t his fault though.
    The
people of Slovakia made him throw his legs in the air (know that
    feeling). It
    was their “demonic energy.”

  • Lady Gaga and the house that Ruth built. I
    don’t know much
about the artist known as Lady

    Gaga
, but don’t see her being a baseball fan. Earlier in
    the month,
she made  New York Mets fans irate (we are a sensitive lot).  This past
    Friday
she did some self breast feeling up in the Yankee clubhouse. Lady Ga?
    All I’m
going to say is this: Gurrrrl.

  • Head of the Minnesota GOP wonders about Koering’s dinner

    date
.  I should have been more explicit last week about
    Minnesota
    State senator Paul

    Koering
. Him going out to a dinner with porn star Brandon
    Wilde is
no big deal. But if you are a Republican, whose got a primary coming up,
    and
your party is in a “throw out the incumbents” mood, having steak with a
    blue
movie thespian might not be savy public relations. Sure no one here
    cares, but
the head of Minnesota’s GOP does. He is using the meal as
    another
example of why Koering is out of touch with voters.

  • Vanessa

    Carlton
    comes out as bi
    . The singer/songwriter was the
    headliner of
Nashville Pride and announced she was a proud bisexual. Good for her and
    welcome
    to the tribe.

  • The
    Real L Word
    premiered last night
    . Another reality series,
    but this
time with ladies and the girls who love them. If straight folk can act a
    fool on
TV, we should be able to do the same. However, when the reality show
    craze ends
    I’ll be a happy camper.

  • The C-17  and DADT. President Obama has
    promised to veto
    the Defense

    Authorization Act
if it includes funding for a cargo plane
    known as
the C-17. The Defense Department doesn’t want it. Lawmakers, wanting to
    bring
jobs to their home states, do. What does this have to do with DADT? The
    repeal
amendment is attached to the Act. A few will see this threat as all
    about DADT
and nothing to do with an appropration Secretary

    of Defense Robert Gates
wants gone. Yes, the White House
    and the
Defense Department are slow walking the DADT repeal, but the C-17 speed
    bump is
    not cover.

The C-17 is made in my old hometown, Long Beach, CA. It is the city's largest employer (Boeing.)

Oh Martin, Texas and Oklahoma and Kansas are conservative strongholds. It is almost laughable to hear them rant. They want to legislate sex, abortion, and compassion is not on the agenda. My idea of morality is to be honest and kind and to help other people when you can. I feel so
out of place.
