Have I been blogging too long? Have I found too many bloggers to be liars?
Phonies? Am I, finally, getting too cynical? In any case, not knowing
whether it is fiction or nonfiction, preferring to believe it is the
latter, one of the best blog series I have ever
read is:
http://www.blogster.com/veterancop/my-friend-is-leaving-soon-part-one
Today
he posted part 18 and it is as meaningful and as moving as all the
previous 17 chapters. You know there will not be a happy ending but it
will make you discover to what depths a man can feel for another
man--and no, it is not a gay story--just a good man reaching out to
another man.
This blog was originally going
to be about the Gay Pride Artists exhibit
that is showing at our showcase library in the middle of downtown Fort Lauderdale. It was built in 1984
and was a showcase from the day it opened, winning 'Library Of The Year'
in the United States a few times and yet it cost so much to build that
it opened without any books, eventually, taking a year to have one book
for every resident in in Broward county. Today all 8 floors are fountains of information in every kind
of material.
Allen had never
been to the library so this was a good reason to go. The building was
designed with a lot of windows, open spaces and surrounded by the
outside and nature. I will do another blog about the library just as I
will do another blog about
the Gay Pride Artists.
Every year, in
June, the library embraces Gay Pride Month with different exhibits
ranging from books by gay writers, to the gay history of Fort Lauderdale and this year they are
honoring the gay artists in our area using their paintings,
photographs, collages, etc. I took a load of pictures of both the
library and artist's works and will blog again posting them.
Now let's
get to that fried cheesecake---on second thought, don't! We went to
Duffy's for cheeseburgers and looking over the dessert menu I decided we
had to try the fried cheesecake with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream,
and drizzled with butter scotch sauce--how bad could it be??? The ice
cream was good, the dish had way too much whipped cream--yes, you can
have too much whipped cream on a dessert--and the butter scotch was
okay. What can I say about the fried cheesecake? First of all it tasted
like it had been fried in oil that they had fried fish in!!! The
breading coated a chunk of sweetened cream cheese and it was stuck in
the dessert glass just like a piece of fried fish. We did eat it all as,
you know, people are starving in (fill in your own blank) but we won't
be ordering/eating it again.
