Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs--movie Review

WARNING: DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE WHEN HUNGRY!!!!

This
is a food lover's dream movie--cheeseburgers with lettuce and tomato on
a bun falling out of the sky--as many hot dogs with mustard as you
want--a whole island turned into an ice cream sundae with all kinds of
flavors and toppings--an ear of corn big enough to roll over
people--pancakes with butter and syrup too large for even me to
eat--steaks landing on tables so thick they tip the table over--pizza
slices and, yes, spaghetti with meatballs, toast to make rafts out of,
just to mention some of all the food groups that can be ordered and
fall out of the sky for everyone.

Being
an animated film there is a moral to the film and a happy ending about
a boy who is a nerd and grows up to be a guy who is a nerd who meets a
beautiful weather girl who was a nerd, but isn't anymore, as she hides
her smartness until she becomes a nerd again--reversing the Hollywood
myth by putting on glasses and tying her hair up in a pony tail! It's
also about fathers and sons, one such dad who tells his son in all
sorts of ways, every day, how much he loves him, while and father never
tells his son that he loves him.

This
is a satire about obese people with puns about TV weather all revolving
around the nerd who using water turns it into prepared food all ready
to eat and brings his town back to prosperity. Of course things go awry
and so much food comes down from the sky it threatens the town and the
people, eventually, like all disasters, hitting New York. And, (do I have to tell you?), the nerds save the day!

There
are a lot of jokes and physical gags, not to forget sendups of TV and
movies, along with ridiculing gluttony to keep children and adults
interested and smiling.

The voices of Mr. T, Benjamin Bratt, Neil Patrick Harris, Al Roker, Lauren Graham and James Caan, just to mention a few all fit their characters though I am willing to bet you won't recognize most of them.

Why the movie is rated PG I have no idea unless a tornado of spaghetti or nasty Gummi bears and rats might be frightening to young children though they have
certainly seen and experienced a lot worse in Disney animated films!
