Burn the Floor--a Theatre Review

Yes,
it is all there in "Burn the Floor": The exposed 6 pack chests of the
male dancers, the Cha Cha, the hard, shaking, booties of the female
dancers, the Viennese Waltz, the abbreviated costumes, the fox trot, the
ballroom mirrored ball, the Samba, the dazzling lights, the Lindy,
championship dancers, tasseled very short skirts and bras, the Tango,
bright lights, fast pace dancers never stopping, the Paso Doble, a male
and female singer belting out songs, swing and a "Proud Mary"  tribute
to Tina Turner.

As an audience member
you are exhausted by the speed, the intricate steps, the choreography of
Jason Gilkison, the what appears to be an unrelenting pace set by the
21 dancers leaving you to wonder of how many multiple injuries there
must be to these very energetic performers. It would be an injustice to
single out any dancer and is almost impossible to do so as you don't
know who is dancing to what and don't learn the dancer's names until the
finale. None of the dancers are given much time to shine as a couple,
let alone as an individual, because if there aren't 10-20 on  stage at
one time one couple is coming on as another leaves in rapid succession.

Peter
Saul, from the original West End London cast, has a strong voice but is
overpowered by Vonzell Solomon who was a second runner-up on "American
Idol" and belts out every song whether it is needed or not.

Sadly
the dance music is pre-recorded and if it wasn't for the live
percussionist playing by Joseph Malone and Henry Soriano keeping the
dancers on a strong beat the show wouldn't be as effective.

"Burn
the Floor" is a pleasant, entertaining show with strong dancing by the
troupe but, in spite of breath taking moments, there isn't a WOW! number
among the 25 set pieces offered.

1st act 52 minutes+ Intermission 21 minutes plus 2nd act 40 minutes for a total of 1 hour and 53 minutes
