Arnie
and I went out for lunch last Tuesday and, since I like to try new
places, and the Brick House had recently opened I suggested we go there.
When we drove up I liked the open bar and patio they had, though I
don't/won't eat outside, and the sign they had in front.
Between
that sign welcoming motorcycles and upon entering the restaurant and
seeing the waitresses--you won't see waiters here--in their 'unifoms',
which consisted of short shorts cut up to here and blouses cut down to
there you knew they were aiming to get 'the good old boys' club!
The
inside of the restaurant is all booths along the side walls with a gas
burning fireplace along the wall near the entrance and exit to the
kitchen. The right half of the dining room are wood tables and chairs
while the left side has tables with comfortable sofa like seats. There
is a large square bar half inside and half outside plus another gas
burning fireplace on the patio. Do we really need fireplaces burning
when it is in the 80s outside not to forget having the a/c running
inside and a major part of the room open to the natural heat?
Aside
from the multitude of the standard equipment in restaurants today--20 +
TVs --the plain walls have sayings on them. It is obvious that
corporate--yes, it is a chain--has taught the servers to be 'friendly'
and the first things they do is sit down with you! No thank you--I don't
come into restaurants to make friends even if they are guys wearing
jock straps. There is nothing wrong with a server being friendly but
don't throw your boobs in my face to sell yourself. As a waiter I sold
myself but it was with a smile and excellent service. Oh yes, they do
serve food.
Arnie
ordered the 'double your pleasure b.l.t. Texas toast with Apple wood
smoked bacon., crispy lettuce and tomatoes with a side of Tater Tots
($7.49)--more about that selection later--while I had the black &
bleu burger 100% ground chuck, Caramelized onions, Blue cheese butter
and Cajun seasoning. ($8.99) with fries--again more about that
later--and coffee ($2.29). I usually order a burger of some sort when I
go to a restaurant for lunch the first time and this was a good one. It
was rectangular in shape served on a hogie roll, cooked the way I wanted
it. By the way the service was good, in case you were interested in
that! With tax and tip the check came to $24.
When
I got home I checked out their web site, which I usually do before I go
to a restaurant, and got on their mailing list. Within a few minutes I
got 1 coupon for a free cheeseburger, for my birthday, and another
coupon for a free appetizer for joining their 'little black book'. When
Allen and I went to the movies I suggested we go there after as I got
the free cheeseburger so when we split the check it would be a savings
for both of us. When I ordered the cheeseburger instead of fries I had a
side of broccoli which is one of the 6 choices you are
given and that I hadn't seen the last time. Without knowing what Arnie
had ordered Allen also ordered the BLT! By the way as far as I could
tell neither had their sandwiches served on 'Texas toast' but I could be
wrong. With the tax and tip minus the $7.99 house cheeseburger coupon
our lunch cost $8 each.
Since
Bennigan's closed I have been looking for a reliable restaurant to get
a good cheese-burger for lunch and Brick House Tavern + Tap might be the
answer in spite of the boobs as long as they keep on with the coupons!
