What would Hermione say? Daniel Radcliffe's smouldering onstage kiss - with a man!

By DONNA McCONNELL - More by this author »

In a scene that would have Hermione in quite a tizzy, Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe got hot and heavy with a male fan at an awards show in London.

The 18-year-old Harry Potter star went on stage to collect two top theatre awards for his West End debut in Equus - including one for his naked torso.

But while onstage host James Corden, 29-year-old actor and writer of BBC2 show Gavin and Stacey, grabbed the star, clasped his hands on his face and held on tightly for an embarassingly lingering kiss.

Stage handle: Harry Potter Daniel Radcliffe receives a lingering kiss from 29-year-old actor and write James Corden, at the Whatsonstage theatre awards in London on Sunday night

Ever the professional, the young actor who rose to fame as the young wizard, played along gamely, locking lips with Corden much to the amusement of the audience at the show on Sunday.

Daniel triumphed at the Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers' Choice Awards.

He was named the West End's Newcomer of the Year and his racy publicity shots - in which he posed naked with a horse and a semi-clad co-star - took the prize for Theatre Event of the Year.

Moving in for the kill: Radcliffe was taken by surprise by the advances of James Corden at Sunday's awards show, but soon played along with his cheeky antics

Corden recently won Best Comedy Newcomer, along with onscreen partner Ruth Jones, 41 at the British Comedy Awards for show Gavin & Stacey which started life on BBC3 before getting an upgrade to BBC2.

The young actor told The Observer that he was stunned to get a phonecall from comic idol Peter Kay.

Corden said: "Peter Kay said Gavin & Stacey was the show he enjoyed watching most since The Royle Family.

Mane event: Daniel Radcliffe as Alan Strang in the West End production of Equus which won him two Whatsonstage awards on Sunday

"I love Peter Kay. I'd just read his book on holiday. I didn't know what to say."

Meanwhile, when Radcliffe had come up for air he described playing the role of troubled Alan Strang in Equus as "one of the greatest experiences of my life".

He said of his awards success: "I'm truly delighted and thank everyone so much for voting for me.

"Equus is a tremendous and thought-provoking play and I'm so proud and honoured to have been a part of this incredible production."

I wonder if he is... I suspect so... how lucky he was to get 'discovered' at such a young age... so many aspiring young actors never get anywhere at all. it is astounding that although the world population has tripled since 1960, the number of actors have shrunk to a tiny pool of famous names who get all the work and all the money. that's why we all know the names of just about every actor on the planet... very sad... like the only computer software now is microsoft... soon there will be one brand of everythinbg.
