This restaurant use to be known as the Bimini Boatyard Restaurant and has since been taken over by new owners. I had eaten there previously and thought it was much ado about nothing, basically an overpriced tourist spot with a real Florida feeling if you sat outside. The bottom line was I never went back.
We were in the neighborhood and decided to give the 'new' place a try. Walking in I really didn't see anything new as far as the inside decorating went looking just as I remembered being large, having a bright airy feeling.
Looking over the menu I thought it was pretty high priced to have lunch but I thought maybe the food would make it worthwhile. WRONG! Okay I was looking for a mixed seafood dish, preferably grilled but none was available. Our server said they have an excellent Paella that is served at night and he would see if it was available. While I do love Paella I wouldn't consider it an American seafood dish. In any case it wasn't available at lunch time.
Maybe I was wrong but I expected Boatyard to be primarily a seafood house and it isn't. Let's just say the server suggested the Boatyard Burger!
We did start with the honey dipped Bimini bread ($4) which was melt in your mouth good though they should have served handi-wipes with them. Also the 'computer' charged $5. Allen had the grilled salmon with fried broccoli ($23). He said the salmon wasn't anything special but the broccoli tasted burnt. Though I was reluctant to order a burger in what I saw as primarily a seafood restaurant I took the server's recommendation which was a mistake. The Boatyard Burger ($15) was described as a brisket blend with Vermont Cheddar, bacon, grilled onion and a sauce. I ordered it medium rare and it came medium well but, sadly, it was tasteless.
Sometimes a dessert can save a restaurant but here also the Boatyard failed. What the server described as chocolate mousse ($9) came with two blobs of chocolate. One looked and taste like gelato and the actual mousse was adorned with broken pretzels and was way too dense to be a mousse.
The check with tax and tip came to $73.
The bottom line? See my first paragraph and just change 'I never went back' to 'I will never go back'!
