Marissa, almost 13, has got herself a little boyfriend! I finally got the truth out of her (that he was more than just a friend) on Valentine's Day when she bought him a card that said "I love you" on it!!
I guess it was bound to happen, but somewhere in my motherly mind, I still hoped it wouldn't! (said only half jokingly) For years every time we asked her if she had a boyfriend or someone she liked, she'd practically scream "NO" as if it were the grossest idea in the world (smile). And she always had this long-standing joke with our Pop that she'd never have a boyfriend or not until she was like 35 or some crazy number he picked. LOL I always joke and tell her what trouble boys are (just as I always joke to teenage boys- what trouble girls are).
This year she's had a couple boy "friends" including this one kid that I now know she is "going out" with! I have met this kid at school functions and I have to say I like him a lot. So although I'd prefer her to only hang out with girl friends LOL, he's a good pick. In the past couple months, she's become soooo social. I mean she's always been social, but I guess the new part is:
1. Going more places: Skating, YMCA, sledding in Crandall Park...and now today... the movies and the mall (boy do I ever remember these days)!
2. Boys! Boys are in the groups that are going to the above places!
I hope I'm ready for this! So far, she's still my good girl...just getting curious about the opposite sex.
But- oh how this could change so quickly!
This is just another milestone in the life of a Mom and her daughter. I can remember thinking briefly of these days when she was born, but thinking they were so far off (and that I'd be so old by then)!
