Strange Bedfellows

My backporch looks out on a baseball diamond that a private school owns. There seems to be a lot of animal and bird activity going on. We feed stray cats and birds all winter and it is entertaining to say the least. One of the black cats and there are five that visit us, wants to move in. She has eyes like gold coins. She hisses at Jose through the glass and he has melt downs but watches that back door like it was a movie for his benefit. I would bring her in but one back door has locked itself and we don't have a key and the other is sealed against the cold. Ted made her a lovely house but none of the cats will use it. All of them except Nadine are pretty wild. Last night I looked out and Nadine was curled up on her sweater and cushion and the opossum was eating beneath her. Neither one of them looked alarmed or frightened at the presence of the other. We really should have taken a picture but we just didn't think to do it. We have doves, cardinals, sparrows and finches at the bird feeder. The little black birds are the funniest. They travel in troops, never alone, and just act like tiny thieves, swooping down and then running off with a beak full of food. I wish for a mild winter for all the animals sake. I had Chewey send litter and a litter box so I can bring Nadine in. She is uncomfortable being carried and I would have to go out the front and carry her into the house with her struggling all the way. We will get it figured out.

By all means, rescue Nadine.

I wonder how cats stand winters outside. I knew someone who owned a couple of cats that he wouldn't let in the house and it made me mad. Hope Jose doesn't get too upset if Nadine is brought in successfully.

We will get Nadine in somehow if it gets really cold again. She spent last night curled up on a perch lined with an old sweater of mine. She is hyper vigilant and has to be where she can see in front of her. None of the cats like the cozy home that Ted made for them.

That’s a lot of strays near you!!! Are ya sure she isn’t just an opportunist?
What you saw sounds adorable. Thanks for sharing

I would think she belonged to a neighbor but she has been spending the night at our house. She is never very hungry which also sounds like she may be living elsewhere also. As you probably know cats sometimes select new owners if it strikes their fancy.
