Some Random Happenings

My grandaughter will be home for her birthday because she can work remotely. We can't wait to see her. At 24, she is a chemical engineer, has a job in Madison Wisconsin and her own apartment, car and furniture. We are so proud of her and her career. Ted and I are bolder. Have been out to eat several times because we have had both vaccines and are 21 days out from them. We are looking forward to a vacation this year. Last year we had zero time away. One of the benefits of staying at home was that we started interacting with the wild life in the yard. Case in point is Mrs. Robin who lost her mate in the unprecidented cold and who has now taken up with a handsome stranger. Formerly, she and the late Mr. Robin lived in the holly tree. She has now moved her nest to the front porch on top of my wreath. She looks like living decor as she sits up there and warms three beautiful blue eggs. She doesn't seem to mind us going in and out the door. She and I talk saying, "cheep, cheep" to one another. Only she knows what it means. We buy wild bird seed but it does not seem to be to her taste. I think Robins prefer worms and insects. I am glad that she is protected and out of the weather. I am longing for sunshine so I can paint some porch furniture and get some work done in the yard. Mike sent me some poppy seed that I am aching to plant and I have gerbera daisies that I want to put out. We have one more cold spell coming. I have good news from Fredo and he seems much better now. Wishing you all happy thoughts and happy times.

The robins have hatched and all you see are open mouths. It is working their parents to death trying to feed them all. It is as John described it.

Fredo is doing better?? That’s AMAZING news! I’m so happy to hear that.
I love this post. I have been vaccinated as well and it is SO freeing. It’s like a while new world after a year of isolation...
I love that you have a Robin. We have one in a tree above our swing and she is fun to watch.

Mrs. Robin is not afraid of me and not very afraid of Ted but the new Mr. robin does not trust us. I am ordering worm meal cakes for them today.

Somebody made a nest in a lilac bush at shoulder height a few years ago, so I set up the camera. She'd bring food to the hatchlings and all you see is three huge mouths wide open. But when the time came a few days later, she stopped bringing food. Just plain refused to feed them and they got the idea. I don't know if she taught them how to look for food of if they just know what to look for. But in no time they had all moved on.

My mother who was totally lacking in the maternal instinct, often cited bird behavior as ideal. She could hardly wait to push us out of the
nest. .
