We are all interested in more humane treatment of animals.
The tv ad by the Humane Society is so distressing that I can't watch it. I received a progress report on legislation, both enacted and pending and it is easy to see that the states that have farm animals are the worst offenders and their legislative bodies the worst at enacting legislation that would protect horses, hogs and wild life.
Fur labeling is a concern. Currently, a garment costing less than l50.00 is not labeled. The use of cat and dog fur on these garments from china is sickening. There is a bill sponsered by Senator Menendez, N. J. and Senator Susan
Collins of Maine pending in Commerce Science and Transportation Committee to require labels on all fur.
Our own Senators from Oklahoma have a terrible record on
animal welfare. Senator Inhofe has been in office so long that he thinks he owns it and Senator Coburn is not much better.
Horse meat is so in demand in Europe that 90,000 horses were
slaughtered by killer buyers who often out bid people who
wish to adopt them. This figure was in 2009 only.
It is time for those of us who love our animals to protest
and to protest loudly. The abuse of antibiotics on factory farms enables farmers to let their animals live in unsanitary conditions. A feed lot or a hog farm is not an
olfactory delight. They stink to high heaven because of
cruel over crowding and poor sanitation.
Let your voice be heard.
