I have been watching a lot of movies lately and I keep
returning to the Turner Classic Movie stations. Last
night I watched Out of Africa. Who is better than Streep
and Redford? No one in my recent memory.
This started me thinking about our old movie lists and
how we ranked our favorites in days gone by when more of
us wrote blogs. Yes, I know facebook is handy for keeping
up with non blogging friends but it is a poor substitute
for sharing with people who have become our true friends.
I can watch the epics like Gone With The Wind and Lawrence
of Arabia over and over. Of course GWTW is not politically
correct and it romanticizes the old South but the story
is absorbing and the acting as well. I will always be
in love with Rhett Butler. Beckett is also a favorite
of mine. Most of my favorites were watched on a drive in
movie screen with my children asleep in the back seat
after gorging on home made popcorn and brought from home
drinks. It is still a cherished memory for both of them.
I would be interested to hear of your favorites. Are you
as tired as I am of watching on screen sex? I grew up on
a farm, no stranger to the birds and the bees. My old
fashioned view is that sex is magical and extremely personal and should not be displayed in movies when the
imagination can be invoked quite easily with crashing waves and such. Oh dear, now I am revealing my age!!
