Just in Case

If anyone is on a heart healthy salt free diet, I have a recipe that I like better than Mrs. Dash. It is as follows: l tablespoon Italian seasoning 1 tablespoon garlic powder 1 tablespoon ground coriander seed l tablespoon onion powder My cardiologist is sadistic but if it gets rid of the fluid retention it will be worth it. There is a marked loss of appetite because one does not long for unsalted food. Also you have to prepare food from scratch because there is so much sodium in canned and convenience food. I have found that carrots, sweet potatoes and bananas taste better than most, salt free. I am anxious to see how it all works out because I have avoided carbs for years. Meat is good if you saute onions and mushrooms with it as seasoning.

I didn't lose any weight on my salt free diet. Maybe because I switched to sugar.

I lost 8 pounds but not where it counted, around the middle. I was told that there is where my medication puts the bloat. I am cheating but will quit as soon as the weather is better!!

For some strange reason, we've hardly ever added salt to anything unless a recipe called for it. I'm thinking your palette will adjust and former delights will seem too salty. Jenn and I are counting calories and are a few pounds down as well. We wish you luck and much determination!

Ted can eat anything and have perfect cholesterol etc. I think it is a matter of genetics. Both my grandmothers had the same problems and one was on a Mayo Clinic diet of just rice and fruit juice...that was back when there was nothing to lower blood pressure. You and Jennifer are on the right page and will stay healthy!!

Making your own, you know what's in it.

Yes and since I have never put salt in baked goods, I can have my own chocolate cookie every day....just one. I have many in my freezer.

That sounds hard. My brother is actually trying to avoid salt in his diet as well per doc orders. I have given him many boxes of Penzey's salt free spices which he seems to like. I love Penzey's because of their message.

Nothing tastes good but carrots, sweet potatoes and bananas. I would go off it if I hadn't already lost seven pounds this week.
