Just Call Me the Salvage Queen

I scored big this weekend. I now have three doors in great
condition stashed in the garage. I saw them on the curb when
I was on my way to the library. I stopped on my way home and inquired if they were for the taking and the house holder
came out, saw my little car and put them in his truck and
brought them home for me. My neighbor was outside and they
put them in the garage for me. My brain is percolating with ideas. They are in excellent condition. Wrap around desks,
maybe?

I also found a copper cafe sign at a garage sale and it is
now hanging in the kitchen. It cost one dollar and has lots of cachet.

I am feeling really enriched with my finds.

Laura may have found an affordable apartment in Brooklyn. I
have to rush to the bank and make a deposit in her account.
Fingers crossed!

Congratulations on your salvaged doors, I always think of getting those too, but transporting is a problem. NYC is a place for the courageous but it sounds like your granddaughter is smart and determined. I think it was in the early 80s that my oldest sister lived there, and had to travel about 3 hrs daily to work in the hospital.

I am far too lazy for New York. I hope Laura finds a job in her field and
a fairly decent apartment. I saw an arbor made out of doors and that is in
the realm of possibility. I was so lucky the guy brought them home for me.

I grew up in Queens, next to Brooklyn and I couldn't afford rent in the family house. I hope the "affordable" apartment is in a fairly decent neighborhood, but for that, she'll need mucho $$$. Some of the most run-down neighborhoods are being rebuilt and becoming so trendy.... well, you get the idea. Let us know where the place is if you hear.

I left the City in '79 and never looked back. And unlike Teal, I wouldn't want to dso it again. Hell, I'm too laze to move south!

My son said his feet were always wet when he worked on Wall street. He carried extra socks in his brief case. Do you miss living in the city?
You and Donna have a great lifestyle in upstate New York. I will tell every one what neighborhood when Laura gets a place.

I love garage sales ... you got lucky. I am interested to know what you think is affordable in NY. last time I checked, prices for places convenient to Manhattan were sky high. Did she connect with Julie and Lila? xx, T

P. S. to teal: the rental prices I quoted involved just her share after she
procured room mates. The 675 would be a total in excess of 2700. a month.
When my son worked in New York, he got an efficiency in Brooklyn and it was
still pricey and that was over twenty years ago. My grandaughter who lives
in Tulsa has a spacious two bedroom for 800 a month so you can see we have
sticker shock.

I hope she has called your friends. I have not talked to her directly, just got her news from my daughter. Her time is very limited at l0 Manhattan but she is limited to about a thousand a month rent with room mates. She has a lead on an apartment in Brooklyn for 675 a month and will
have to scrounge up two room mates. She was to look at it today. The woman wants three months rent in advance. It may be too grungy. She had an interview with Prada but it wasn't promising.
