The Householdhold Gods

They have certainly dissed us. We have an under the slab
leak in the bathroom and have to call in a leak specialist and
on top of that, yesterday the disposal started leaking in two
places. The microwave shorted out this morning so I went to
Lowes and spent more money than I wanted to on the two new
appliances. Ted is slowly trying to get the garbage disposal
fixed. He hurts badly between bouts of activity and has to
sit down and rests. He will surely be glad to see Dr. Hanson
tomorrow for a treatment.

I finally got all the laundry and unpacking done and the
cleaning is also done. It has been such a chore and I
still haven't done the bathrooms. A man from the electric
company is coming to do an energy audit tomorrow morning.
I went two weeks with perfect nails and I have been home for
two days and all my polish has peeled. I have to take our
good clothes to the cleaners and to the laundry tomorrow.

Rex is driving me beserk. Evidently he missed us more than I
thought and if I don't pay attention to him, he shoves me with
his nose and licks my legs. Not the kind of attention I like. He is worse than a toddler.

We still are not over our jet lag. We go to bed early and
get up early...way early...3 am for me and 4am for Ted this
morning. I guess we are still on Italian time.

Since I can't wash dishes, I baked a small ham and we are
eating sandwiches. I had to get groceries, all three of us
were out of food except for French Onion soup that I made
yesterday and am looking forward to eating again tomorrow.

We were a little disappointed in the French food on the ship. It was good but not as good as what you can get in
New Orleans at Brennans. The presentation was nice. I had
Dover Sole and the waiter deboned it at the table with a lot
of ceremony. They drew a pineapple tree on my plate when I
had a pineapple tart. However, I will go for taste over
presentation any time.

I have been thinking about Laura's cream cheese corn dish.
It sounds very good. I may make it tomorrow. It is very
cold and we need comfort food.

I have an Alex Delaware mystery novel to finish. I like
Jonathon Kellerman. You can always count on his books to
be interesting.

There was an interesting article in the Sunday paper about
handling stress. It was by a Dr. from India. He more or
less said to just flow through the distressing times in our
lives as best we can and not to obsess over them.

I may have told you that Sara has a job as highschool band
director in Tulsa. I am awed. Those jobs are scarce as
hens teeth now that the music and art have been slashed from
the education budget. I have no doubt that she will put the
emphasis on marching since she was a drum major...poor Owen,
his paternal grandmother is going to keep him and his Mom
will be just as busy as the coaches are with games and parades. She has to help keep food on the table in these
harsh economic times and Curtis can keep him on weekends. I
know it hurts to leave him when he is so small. This is her
dream job and it has come very soon in her career. Yea for
Sara.

I am just now starting the laundry woes from travel. Your weather there is cold? We have been enjoying a very nice warm streak. I am loving it.

We always seem to have a ton of laundry when we come home but it was sooo
worth it.

Sounds like you're ready for another cruise. Although, like taking a teacher sick day, it's often more difficult than being there. No more garbage disposal under my sink. Bucket and compost pile. Yeah country living! And yeah for Sara!!

composting is the way to go but we never got the hang of it and it attracted
stray dogs.

Garbage disposal installation has always been a real challenge for Mr. TBend. They never match your plumbing and it's tight down there under the sink. When he gets back to Colorado next spring he will have to do something about the Hushmaster over at the Brown Palace - leaking. We found it in the attic of the garage, so maybe it didn't have a chance.

Our husbands have always been so versatile that it is hard to imagine a job
presenting difficulty. I offered to call the plumber but Ted wouldn't hear
of it.

Oh my, Jeri, this is not the calm getting-back-to-normal activities I hoped for you. Sorry about the welcome home leaks and the appliances going on the fritz. Sending more tummy rubs for dear Rex. Seems to me that Real Life could have given you a few days to get over the jet lag. I read that it takes one day for every time zone you crossed coming home to recover, so I'm guessing that's four or five days for you. Oh dear. Have a hug, sweetie....

Kudos to Sara!

I think we are over the jet lag. At least we got up at a normal time this
morning and went to bed early. I am very proud of Sara and being young and
determined her faith never wavered. She just knew she would get what she
wanted. I am sorry for our sake that she is moving back to Tulsa but she
needs the support system there and her mother is delighted.

I am being referred to the leak specialist by my regular plumber only to avoid tearing up more tile than necessary. Rex likes the people at the kennel but two weeks was too long and the woman who runs it is small and he
is so huge she couldn't do much with him. I can't walk him because he tears
himself right out of my grasp but fortunately Ted is big and intimidates
him enough to make him mind. They both need exercise but Ted can't walk
without extreme pain.

Wow! Looks like you didn't waste any time getting busy! Benny was once diagnosed with separation anxiety, so we never leave him in a strange place. But even so, they both let it be known when they need attention from their human. Maybe a few more belly rubs will get Rex caught up and back to normal. Good luck with the leaks. If the guy calls himself a "specialist" you know it's going to cost a few bucks!
