The Fatal Four is not anything bad at all. Not some right-wing clique or anything.
It's the name of his bowling foursome when he was 11 years old. My brother says he wasn't sure for the longest time -- but recent bios of Tony Snow made him realize that the Tony he was friendly with in elementary school was the same one who became press secretary. My brother, Tony Snow, and two other boys named Steve and Thad were in a group for bowling every Saturday at Princeton Bowl in Springdale, Ohio. Which is just outside Cincinnati. My brother remembers Tony as tall and blonde and kind of cool. And his voice was very much the same, back then.
They also played army sometimes when Tony was in our neighborhood. He attended Heritage Hill Elementary School, same as I did. In first grade I didn't know how the school's name was spelled, and thought it was "Hair deChill." So...Tony Snow was walking the halls of Hair deChill at the same time I was, since he's only a couple of years older. It was a nice school, but my brothers and sisters and I switched to St. Gabriel's elementary a little later.
He may have gone to GE Park to play in those days, or walked to the Pony Keg for soda or candy, both of which were close by. I liked those.
He was also Catholic, but like most Catholic kids in the area, went to the public high school, Princeton (where his father taught.)
.....Right now I'd rather think about the things which tie people together than those which drive them into opposite camps.
