The whole situation with the Octo-mom and her 14 kids is already like a bizarre novel (probably by Douglas Adams), but like everyone else I have to try to explain it to myself.

So I began thinking about those Angelina Jolie lips of hers, and Suleman's statement that she'd never had any plastic surgery or procedures. Of course, nearly everything she's said in interviews has turned out to be a lie, so this too is one. And her facial transformations have been estimated to have cost around $20,000. Where did she get it? Probably the same place she got the money to do in-vitro repeatedly. From a doctor or two.

The doctor who implanted her with 8 embryos this last time, and did all her other pregnancies, must be as mentally ill as Suleman herself. He is using her as a test case to demonstrate the success of his techniques to impregnate infertile women. This doctor is probably the sperm donor too. And to keep her happy, he's paid for extensive plastic surgery to make her look like she wants to, like Angelina Jolie. Physicians have cash to throw around, and this woman, so willing to be bulked up with babies again and again, makes for a highly visible promotion vehicle for his fertility practice. I thnk he'd be quite willing to pay for a lot of things like that. No one seems to be telling much about her present income. She is probably being supported by those doctors. It hasn't mattered to him/them that she's half-crazy as well as disgusting. When you want to advertise a business, you go for the biggest venue for your message that you can find(and afford).

Kind of like how AIG threw that huge, expensive Super Bowl party to promote themselves right after the bailout. The statement they made was that AIG was now all better now and back on top. They used the most-watched program of the year. Smart. Who cares if it made lots of people angry? I mean, people were already mad at them. Other people would see the celebration, and think AIG must be big again; and they'd go and do business with them.

Anyway -- back to those lips. Since the physician who worked on her face was not the same one who got her pregnant, Suleman has been under the care of at least 2 physicians. And neither one held back from putting this insano through big, risky medical procedures. So at least 2 doctors are complicit in her ruination. You're supposed to evaluate a patient for her general stability before changing her appearance by major surgery and stuff.

But just because I think she's been used doesn't mean I really sympathize with her. She is something to avert the eyes from. Every news page now seems to want to thrust that photo of her walrus-sized belly at us, and it made me rethink eating dinner at the computer.

On Craigslist, they yell at pet breeders. This seems like the same thing. Bringing 14 kids into a troubled, supercrowded, global-warming, social-security-breaking, iraq-killing, bailout-stealing, corn-syrupy, meds-in-the-water-supply, peanut-butter-killer, Somalian-pirated, darfury, gitmo world?

Hm. I think octo-mom should sue her doctor for child support, if she isn't getting it already from him.
