Every time I see John McCain on TV, I remember mmmhollywould's post about him and how his arms are short like a midget's and "you cannot trust a midget." The post struck me as incredibly funny, especially to see it in print, but I really have to stop and admit a few things.Â
First, it's not fair to judge someone on his physical appearance (but you can laugh at things related to it, like Bill O'Reilly's neck fat, which is a function of his character. If he had a regular neck, I believe he would be less pompous. Or if he became un-pompous, his neck fat would disappear overnight. I feel certain of this.)
Second, John McCain's short arms are a result of his being a POW. He had both arms broken, I think, and can't raise them all the way up. So they are actually a reminder that he's a veteran and served honorably, and withstood torture.
Thirdly, midgets are all right. I was reminded of this recently when I had to rent a truck several times, and one of the businesses I went to was owned by someone who's a dwarf. His name is Steve.Â
Budgettruck.com works with lots of truck-rental businesses, Â so I picked one that didn't screw you for the weekend rates. (At least one guy charges more on Saturdays, for only a half-day rental.) The one I chose, in Carrick, turned out to be owned by a man I remembered from Chiller Theater, which was a Pittsburgh Saturday night horror movie show hosted by Bill Cardille (Chilly Billy). Chilly Billy is of course famous from the movie Night of the Living Dead, in which he played a TV news anchor. (George Romero films are sort of a cult here in Pittsburgh, since Living Dead and parts of others were filmed here. A couple of Chilly Billy's kids also acted in at least one of the sequels.) Steve was brought in as one of the characters in Chilly Billy's "castle." I remember he had longish 70s hair then, kind of Bobby Sherman-like, and wore a blue tux as he stood (on a table) and cracked jokes with Chilly Billy. His business, an auto supply, became well-known then, and I hadn't recognized it because the name is changed.
He's a very cute guy. He has bleachy-blond hair, and a charming voice.Â
He told me he was about 19 back when he was on TV -- and told me to look at the site ChillerTheaterMemories.com for photos and stuff about the show. The site has the original theme music, which I love.Â
The whole thing got me thinking about other dwarves, like the actor Michael Dunn, who was in an episode of Star Trek (original series). I remember the episode he appeared in better than any other, because he was so appealing in it. His life is interesting to read about. He died before he was even forty, having had lifelong health problems related to his physical build.Â
....But John McCain is still a mental midget so I do not praise him.
