I just saw the weirdest thing. I looked out the back screen door to make sure my birdie was okay, on his towel playground on the porch. (He can't fly and is rather lame in one leg, so he stays on the ground in one area, on towels. I put out his dishes, toys, and a cardboard shelter.)
He looked like he'd been squashed by a car. He was lying prone in the sun, his head on one side, and his tail fanned out wide. His mouth was wide open too.
He was just sunbathing. He does this kind of thing when the sun's really bright and shining on him; he seems to love the feeling of the sun on his feathers. But I'd never seen him splayed out so completely.
And what was funnier, was a couple of feet away in the grass was another bird, some yellow and black thing, doing kinda the same thing. It was nestled in some clover, but its head was tilted over on one side and he slowly, slowly, tilted his whole body to the side. And stayed there for about five minutes.
I've never seen birds do this in the wild.
Oh, I just looked again and my bird's in his bath (which is also in the sun) and starting to tilt to one side there, in the water. I hope he doesn't fall over.
