Whoa!

I wanted to add another image but the uploader screwed up. Whenever I click the "Click to add an image" button, I get the top of the MyBloggers page rather than the browser to upload an image. Sigh... oh well! (Eddie- this needs fixing.) The image is of a boat ramp along the Tampa-St. Petersburg Causeway.

The conference was ok. I am glad it is over. It was no so much fun this year, but fun is often a state of mind.

So much is going on in Florida and around the world. Brazil has finally stood up to YouTube over that anti-Muslim video. It must be taken down or YouTube has to make it inaccessible to viewers in Brazil or pay fines of $5000 a day. The video violates Brazilian laws. So far, the video is indirectly responsible for over 50 deaths and disrupted business for banks, FedEx, etc., and other companies that do business overseas. The deaths are an outrage. I think human lives are far more important than the right to insult others and free speech. Free speech has limits. For example, one cannot threaten to kill or harm others without consequences.

The video serves no purpose other than to insult and incite people's fury. What if Muslims made a movie that characterized Mary the mother of Christ as a slut, especially as she was admittedly an "unwed mother"? Millions of Christians would interpret that as blasphemy. I am starting to get really sensitive to insulting others based on race, religion, sexual preference, etc.

Your comment about becoming "really sensitive" to insults causes me to reflect. Being a nonbeliever in a 90% "pro God" America, I feel constantly bombarded with "stuff" that rubs me wrong, i.e., license plates that say "In God We Trust", Pledge of Allegiance, all I read, hear, and see on TV and in the papers (and in real life). I really try to respect others' beliefs, but sometimes I want to scream and lash out. And too often, I come right out and express my opinions, not to hurt anyone, but to "come out of the closet". Blogging helps me be true to myself. Others, you included, find many of my statements offensive. I'm truly sorry, but "I am what I am".

I saw part of the video. It was stupid. I really don't think we need to be caving into others because of what they believe. It would be the continuation of the fear of offending a few so silence the majority. Bleh. In terms of the human lives, SAD and unnecessary. They are freaks just waiting for a reason to act out in my opinion. Can't tiptoe around them!!!

There is no excuse for killing people and a video is not an excuse. On the other hand, There is no excuse for deliberately and needlessly insulting another's race, religion etc.. I do not propose that we should "cave in to extremists" (caving in suggests that we are giving something up) nor is my position based on political correctness. We enjoy free speech but even free speech has limitations-- which is why there are laws against defamation, liable, threatening others, etc., ...and that is before we get to the sheer idiocy and bad taste of a video like this is. It is anti-Muslim. If it were anti-black or anti-gay, maybe more people would get the point.

I wonder what motivates people to hate so violently. It makes me want
to crawl back into the pre-Vietnam era.

I agree! Wasn't it nice before all the political-correctness and useless social programs.

I thought the video was kinda funny...and had nothing to do with any deaths. I just gave Obama a scape-goat for his failed foreign policy.
comment by eddie on Sept 26, 2012 6:48 PM ()
Obama has NOTHING to do with Muslims using the video as an excuse to kill Americans and our allies, and disrupt western owned businesses. I would hope that as a Republican you could understand that businesses unable to operate and make money is an issue- though less important than the loss of lives.

Why haven't we heard anything more about this ass of a film maker?? He ought to be prosecuted for inciting to riot. I assume the FBI is looking for him, but -- until tonight's news--we assumed the FBI was investigating our Libyan ambassador's killers.

I think they know who it is, but the guy is already on probation and barred from computer access so someone had to work with him. I would not want to be him- not with the Pakistanis putting a contract out on the film's producer.

That stupid video. I agree with you.

I know that we have the right to be idiots, but producing a video like that is over the top. It is NOT funny to deliberately insult anyone's belief system.

Yep. I am hearing of the uploading issue. MyBloggers is ablaze with chatter.

But we trust you to fix it!
