The Ugliness Ends Today

I had a busy morning. I spent about an hour or so working on my newsletter. The TV was on in the background and today I saw the ugliest anti-Obama ads ever. Had I supported McCain to begin with, the sheer ugliness of the ads would have made me think twice about voting for him. Do I want a President who blatantly supports smear campaigns when the truth is not derogatory enough? I heard Obama called a socialist, and of course, they are beating his relationship with Rev. Wright and Bill Ayers to death. The emails are even worse!

I learned something new about 'political campaign speech'. It does not have to be true to be aired or published. If it is libelous, then the opposing candidate may bring a libel suit that will not be heard or decided until AFTER the election. I wish just one candidate would bring a suit for slander/ libel no matter when the suit is settled. It might make candidates think twice about what they broadcast, if in the end there may be consequences.

After I went to the polls (no waiting at my precinct) I went grocery shopping and shopped for up-coming birthdays. My son's is on Nov 10th and his son, my first grandson, is on November 15th. My niece was born ten days after my son, so of course, I shopped for her birthday too. Had to go to the gas station, the drug store and the post office, and I was still home by 12:30. Tonight I have a Red Hat dinner to attend, so between the elections and all of the activities, this is quite a day!

You have definitely highlighted the saddest part of American politics. Too many politicians don't feel that it is enough to run on their own merit. They have to point to the shortcomings of the other side ... or even exaggerate or makeup others to strengthen the argument. It is just so wrong.
