Human Trafficking Statistics:

image

1. Number of victims at any given time ... 27 million worldwide and 2.4 million in the USA.
2. Percentage of victims exploited for sexual slavery ...80 percent.
3. Number of victims exploited as forced labor (slaves) ...17 percent.
4. Ratio of female to male slaves (including children)...Two of three.
5. Annual value of human trafficking in dollars ...$32 billion.
6. Odds of rescue ...one chance in one hundred.
Most victims of human trafficking unknowingly enter the market after being lured by promises of work and opportunities by predatory individuals and organizations. Others are children that are literally sold into slavery by parents as a means to pay debt or to reduce the number of children they must feed. A minority of the victims are bound as slaves after entering agreements to be smuggled across borders or as a means of covering personal debts under threat of violence.
Human trafficking goes on in industrialized countries and can be found right on Main Street, USA. For example, hundreds of American children, many fleeing destructive homes, are forced into prostitution on an annual basis. That's the conservative estimate.
Florida has been identified as a hub for human trafficking activity, citing one of the highest incidences of human trafficking in the country. This crime affects all types of individuals, both foreign and domestic.

I wanted to write about human trafficking because this is something that sickens me- but just now, I heard a GOP threaten to impeach Obama because his gun control initiatives. I think that sickens me even more!

I think that human trafficking is about the worst thing going on in the world today. I'm willing to bet that those statistics are only the tip of the iceberg.

I agree. Power of life and death over others...

I wonder how many young people think they are accepting help with no strings attached, and then one day they realize they aren't free to leave.

I know. Very sad.

It is scary how long-standing this problem. It is a horrible situation, but one in which attempts to stop it have been ongoing for some time. Sadly, it is still taking place!

I hear that the nail salons in our city are full of Vietnamese girls who
are brought here for slavery and prostitution. It is very sad. I am
furious at trying to impeach Obama for his stand on gun control.

I looked back- Clinton was impeached during his 2nd term. Republican rancor.
