Horrified

The news about the Colorado shooting today shocked me. Twelve dead and nearly sixty wounded? Why? I cannot begin to fathom what kind of person can be so hateful as to kill all of those innocent people. This goes beyond indifference towards others. Something like this requires malice, contempt and a complete disregard for human life. This man is not sick or wounded. He is truly evil.

I feel sorry for his family. The guilt and shame they must feel has to be overwhelming. Can you imagine being the parent of someone who did something like this? They must be as confused and hurt as the victim's families, but no one is likely to sympathize with them. Guilt by association: they produced that terrible person who so callously killed their loved ones! Of course, I sympathize with the victims and their families. What a tremendous loss to survive... and how does one survive something so senseless?

It is all horrific- all of it. What is this world coming to? This makes me reassess my own difficulties. My problems seem so small by comparison.

Put the blame on Jefferson, Adams, Franklin, et al. Nothing will ever be done about it. It is a living curse.

I cannot blame our nation's architects. This happens all over the world. Far too many people appear to miss that connection to the rest of mankind.

People who have no empathy, sympathy or love for others.

His preparation for this was thought out and extensive. He set up booby-traps in his apartment and set up loud music to start playing at midnight. When his neighbor went to complain she could see the front door wasn't quite shut, and she almost went in, but decided not to, lucky for her. The police have still not been able to get in there 24 hours later because of the traps. But he did warn them about it when they took him into custody: maybe he realized the horror of the whole thing and didn't want more carnage. It is also interesting that he wore all kinds of protective gear: this was not suicide by cop, for some reason he wants to be around to see the consequences of his actions. In part, I blame violent movies like the Batman series, and I shudder to think how many more nut cases will get the idea this is a good way to get attention.

Truly a twisted, evil mind. I wonder what possessed him to tell them about the booby traps? Certainly not human kindness.

This man was in the grip of a terrible obsession with no vestige of sanity
left. As long as violence remains a part of our culture, glorified on tv and
in movies, it will continue to h appen. Our hearts go out to
those who are suffering.

I must be terribly naive because I am ever shocked by stuff like this- and stuff like genocide which I posted about today. These are things that I cannot fathom.

They walk among us, ...misfits, psychos and home-grown terrorists. Our system just can't identify them in time. This will happen over and over again.

Somehow- the reply to this ended up in its own comment box.
