Jondude posted another painting and I am truly enamored by his unique style. His strokes and use of color are bold, and I just love how he uses blues and purples. I want to learn how to paint less detail without sacrificing my own style. Well, yesterday I set out to give it a try. I started with a small canvas- 11"H x 14"W, and a larger brush considering the smaller canvas area and my preference for detail brushes. I used a #8 flat which is just over 3/4" wide and started painting. I made up my mind that if this brush could not paint it, then it did not need to be on the canvas. The only exception was the crane. I started him with the #8 but finished him with a smaller brush so that his beak would not end up looking like a blob of paint.
I want to do more like this. I think this would work well for plein air paintings, something else I have wanted to do and put off time and again. I was looking over my work, and I sure have come a long way since January of 2005 when my New Year's resolution was to teach myself how to paint. Now, if I could just get my over-sized butt into a dance studio and learn how to dance. I bought some CD's to try to learn at home, but it is not like art. I need people and a dance partner.
Wonder if I will get any cleaning done today?
