OMG! I try to go with an open mind, and to be tolerant, but I just can't help it.
MIL is a freaking nag and her elevator no longer goes to the top floor.
She says something about getting a new TV service from Telus, but she couldn't get it to work, so she pressed EVERY BUTTON ON THE REMOTE, totally screwing it up. She bragged about how nice the guy was that she phoned for help was to walk her through everything for 45 minutes! She had even disconnected her new service. Then she said something about she wasn't sure but BIL thought she should have a PVR. Really? DH looks at her remote, and says there are no PVR buttons on it. I look at her equipment, see something that looks like it could be a PVR, but I'm more interested in this thing with an antenna. It looks like a wireless router.
DS bolts off the couch at this point and gets his iPod Touch and scans for WiFi. Yup, Grandma now has Wifi! I find the password on the side of the router and DS and I have fun sending each other emails - his iPod and my Blackberry.
And yes, she does have a PVR. And her remote does have PVR buttons. Apparently DH is blind or can't read. Actually, I knew that already. :P
BIL had bought a bottle of locally made Mead (honey wine), so I'm given some to try. It's nice. Fairly sweet, of course.
The food was good (take out chinese) and no one bugged me about what I did or didn't eat. Dessert was a homemade Russian cake BIL made - basically an egg-y pan cake with apples on top. I love a good traditional iced cake, so I was disappointed (I'm used to it by now. If I want the kind of cake I like, I bake or buy it myself.)
BIL was in Russia on a vacation so we had to endure the slideshow and presenting of the gifts. The kids got t-shirts, oddly DD got the larger of the shirts which is probably MY size. DS's shirt fits him. Huh. He gave DH and I xmas tree ornaments of those Russian stacking dolls. Cute.
The slideshow was interesting and soooo boring. How many freaking churches do we have to see? How many stupid comments from MIL? And some from SIL (with her hacking cough). "Now is that thing the same thing that was in the picture before?" Who the hell cares!! I can't even remember all the stupid things MIL said, but she knew they were stupid, even using the words "stupid questions." BIL would explain what the Kremlin is. Then MIL would tell him to explain what the Kremlin is to the kids because they don't know. And he'd explain it AGAIN!!! They heard you the first time, we all did! ARRRGGHHH! At least he didn't pull out books and insist that you read them. Yup, he's done that before. And is insulted when you decline.
I was so glad when the Russia pictures were done, but then he stopped in London for a while, and we had to see pictures of that too.... he's been there multiple times, it's nothing special, yet he had to show everything over again....
Now, realize that I saved all this for my MyBloggers friends. I don't say a word to the in laws (although when DH asked what I thought - I told him it was horribly boring). I sat through it with a big glass of wine and managed to keep it to some impatient sighs. ;)
