A Journey Into My Life

New Recipie

Decided to try a "new recipie" today. It's still in the oven, so I can't say if it's good or not yet.

See, I am the cook around here. I believe a "man", "woman", and "kids" (living together) should share in chores. That's why I have no problem cooking. The kids can do the dishes, and Roxann can handle the laundry. It's all "fair here".. plus, I never met a woman who would let me do laundry.. even if i begged.. lol.

I am a "Good cook" actually. I grew up alone alot. My parents were gone alot. I was cooking for myself since I was very young. Plus, we didn't always have alot of food around (Sometimes we did, sometimes we didn't). I learned to take "What we had", and make something good. Even ex's that hate my guts, would probably admit I was a good cook.. lol.

Anyway, I decided to try (and alter) something I seen on a can of chicken broth. Basically, I take the idea, and make my own thing.

I haven't named it yet. I'll have to wait till I taste it...
For now we'll call it "Gary's Augratin Chicken".

You need:
1) 1 can chicken broth
2) 1 stick of butter
3) About 2 or 3 lbs of potatoes
4) 1 large onion
5) Several bags of shredded "cheese".. I used the 4 or more cheese packs (Cheddar, Monteray Jack, Colby.. and others)
6) You will also need some cheese you can slice, and put on the top.
7) Several packs of "Grilled Chicken". Or, you could grill your own. I used what we had. About 3-4 lbs of it.
8) A decent sized baking pan (like a cake pan)

How to prepare:
1) Cut the skin off the potatoes (use a peeler best), then cut them into very thin slices. Put in the pan.
2) Cut the large onion into small pieces. Put in the pan.
3) Microwave the butter, and put in the pan.
4) Place the chicken in the pan (Microblast it, if was frozen first).

Now you" Stick it in the oven for about 45 minutes before you add the cheese. Cover with Aluminum foil. Don't worry, it will look a bit "wet" for awhile. Soon the moisture will cook out, and it will be "consistant, not sloppy".

Add the cheese.. mix it in good, and cook for about another 45 minutes. Still covered.

Now add your cheese slices on top. I used Colby/Monterey. You now want those to cook in for 20 or so more minutes. They will turn "slightly brown", to give it that "Augratin" taste/texture.

Let stand a few before eating, eat warm.. but let that sauce thicken a bit.

It's done now. The family is tasting it, and it got a "Thumbs up"!!

See now... I have more skills then just "pissing people off".. LOL.

That sounds yummy... extremely fattening, BUT YUMMY!
that's cool that you cook. My son likes to cook too (he's 13) and it's a great way for he and I to hang out in the kitchen together.

I do about 95% of the cooking here, was taught by my Mom. In fact my Mom taught all of us kids how to cook, so we are all handy in the kitchen
