Well I'm back doing shows. I did kinda take some time off. Some because I wanted (burnt out). Some I had no choice (in jail). I'm ready again now to go full swing. I think the time away actually did me good. Doing shows in different cities/states full time for 23 years can wear on you. Ironically though, once away from it awhile you miss it and want to go back.
It's different now though. Roxann (who is a nurse) works the weekdays. I have to watch our new baby while she works. That means I can only do weekend shows unless we find good childcare. For now, I will do that. Another thing is, she and the baby have to go with us. It just works that way for the time being.
I've done a dozen or so shows since "Sebastian was born. We took him to every single one. We did a real busy one on the 4th of July in Clawson (Near Detroit). I sold over 200 necklaces that day which near broke my record (Thats alot considering most are hand made on the spot). Sebastian loved it. 20,000 people go to that to watch fireworks that go off right above us. The noise scared him at first, but afterwords he loved it. We also were in other places. Sterling Heights for a Polish fest. Stormed all day the first day. Found out Sebastian loves storms. Did well there too the other days. Been doing a flea market in Flint Michigan. One of the worst areas in Michigan (maybe country). It's on Dort Hwy. Strip clubs all over, hookers, all that. But that's night time. It's pretty safe during the day. So we stay till 6pm, then leave. I might get a permanent display there for Christmas and bring in stuff from other store owners I know. I am considering that as it's close, and rent is cheap. I'd do well.
Danny just called. He's promoting a show this week in Lansing MI. In 2 weeks way up north in Traverse City. He wants me to do them, but I doubt I will. We are leaving for South Dakota later this week, it would be hard. Plus finishing the moving and the baby situation. The Traverse City show is like 4 hours away up north Michigan. We don't have child care, and have only one vehicle legal at the moment. Even if we got childcare, I don't want to risk it going way up there with bad plates and insurance. Money too tight to get that now. Plus, I just got popped for speeding with it, then got popped for no registration and failure to change address. Two seperate incidences. In both cases they could've towed my vehicle and gave many more tickets. I took care of those, and not wanting more at the moment. Anyway, looking like I will miss out of a few good shows.
It's just alot of adjusting. We'll get through it though.
Ok, I better go. Roxann is here.
Take care all,
Gary
