Really?????

Yesterday, I got a call from a lady at mom's church. I'll call her J. She wants mom to attend a church retreat next Saturday. It starts at 8:30 and goes about 12 hours.
J told me that she's one of the leaders so she'd have to be there from the start and had offered to pick mom up at 7:45. My mother hates mornings.
She told J it might be hard for her to get up early enough to be ready and asked if she could sleep in her car overnight so she would be ready. I asked if she had been serious. Yup.
J asked me if I would bring mom a little later. Um.... After my mom asks if she can sleep in the car, J STILL thinks it's a good idea for mom to attend?
Ya, sure you betcha.

Thank you for asking about my step-mom. She is very comfortable and stable at her assisted living facility. Without the stress and confusions of trying to manage a home, and with a set routine and supportive lifestyle and engaged activities, her cognitive issues have rebounded somewhat. Her biggest health concern now is congestive heart failure, but it is stable with medication. It has been a very long road to get to this point, and I am very grateful to my eldest stepbrother, who has made the finances possible. One day at a time, as the saying goes.

Glad to hear about your step-mother Marta. I've read that stress can make the confusion worse. Sounds like you have a supportive family. That's worth a lot!

Hey, back in the day when I had to get up early I'd stay up all night. Drinking, usually, so I guess it's not quite the same thing....

Well, we all have our moments. I stay up all night sometimes too. Not on purpose though. I call it my every-other-day sleep program.

Fredo - My mom has mid-stage Alzheimer's and gets lost very easily. Lately, she can't find her way from the bathroom to the sanctuary or lounge at her church. Today, someone else called her about the retreat and offered to find a ride for her. Mom couldn't remember her house number or the names of any nearby streets. Scary stuff.
