Gun Control

A few weeks ago I was all set to write. The IL court of something voted that Illinois could no longer not allow carrying/owning concealed weapons. We are the only state not to allow this. So the legislature has 190 days to rewrite our laws to allow carrying weapons. My questions to the rest of you are: Do you all have and carry guns? Do you worry about those around you who may be carrying guns? Then the shooting happened in CN and I couldn't bear to think about guns any more.

It drives me nuts that the NRA thinks that having guns in schools is a good thing. Will the gun be carried around by the responsible person so it is handy or be kept in the office? The gun will have to be kept locked up and how will that help if the gun is needed instantly? Will the responsible person be able to take another's life or will the gun be taken by that bad guy and turned on the good guy who hesitates? What if a child gets the gun?

Chicago had 506 gun killings in 2012. There have been 6 gun killings in the first 3 days of 2013.

I would rather go back to playing Words with Friends than think about guns any more.

Gun "control" and stricter gun laws only inhibit law abiding gun owners. criminals will still get whatever they want. Congress gets it in their agenda to ban guns but instead of giving accurate information, they give false data and the media takes off with it. Just like after the sandy hook shooting when they said an assault weapon was used. it wasn't. It also wasn't an assault weapon by definition. It just looked "scary." Well trained, armed individuals could have life saving results.

It is hard for me to picture an old lady (like me) with a gun in her handbag. Much less said old lady with a shaky hand trying to aim her gun. Scary thought.

Oops. This was the reply to Martin.

"Thirty clip assault rifles don't kill people, people with thirty clip assault rifles kill people." And a lot more than if they didn't have the weapon. For the NRA to respond to the latest school slaughter by saying that schools should have armed guards only shows how sick those gun nuts really are.

I agree.

For a long part of my life I owned firearms. I fired weapons in the army, and at the people I was trained to fire them at. In 1999 I got rid of all of my firearms, shotguns, rifles and a couple pistols. The pistols I turned-in to the police department's guns for cash program, and they went to the melting furnaces. I no longer own or want to own any. But that is just me. Others have their reasons. I do think there are too many firearms in the US, and that is because there are too many paranoid people among us. But that is just my opinion.

different laws here , so we all feel safe , there are illegal guns being imported though, they come in as dismanted bits and pieces, customs do a great job but the crims do better

I hope your country doesn't reach the point that we have.

I don't like guns, use guns, own guns. I think gun laws in this country are crazy out of whack. When the second amendment was written, the framers were talking about single shot muskets, not assault weapons with 30 bullet clips. It is nuts. Gun control in this country is imperative and essential.

I agree.

I know what you mean - it's hard to know what the solution is, but putting guns in the hands of virtually everyone doesn't seem to be it. I saw a political cartoon: You're drowning? You need more water. You've got cancer? You need more cigarettes. You've been shot? You need more guns.

And that is almost what it has come to.

I just can't get motivated to take a stand on guns. First time I saw a post on fb after CN about repealing/modifying the Second Amendment i though it was crazy. Well actually, I didn't think. After I thought I realize how much times (and weapons) have changed in 200+ years.

I think we have to do something. This random killing has to stop.

I would not carry a weapon at all but I was told by a policeman that every
woman should have a can of wasp spray in the car and by her bed. It doesn't
float back in your face and is fast to use and disables the perp for long
enough to get away.

Wasp spray. That is interesting. Mace and pepper spray are illegal here, I believe, but wasp spray? Good idea.

No to your first question--Yes to the second.
With our carrying concealed weapons here in Florida they are all around and with the nuts who walk/ride around here THAT IS SCAREY!!
