Doggie Training

I have been watching Dog Whispers so that I can get some tips on training this puppy of mine. He is too hyper. I did watch a show where Cesar showed two very hyper dogs. It took Cesar a long to calm down these dogs that he was exhausted literally. Some of the training I can do on the dog but my biggest problem is when my son or husband are around the dog he just goes nuts and jumps all over them. He doesn't do this with me and if he does I can get him to stop. I know the dog is feeding off their energy. The dog actually becomes even more hyper when they are around. The two want me to get rid of the dog. I can't do that. I told my husband that our son was like him too and did we get rid of him? I need CESAR!

Onto Boon for some doggie tricks. I usually just give her bones but now I want her to do things for me like sit and then she can have a bone. Simple, right? Wrong! She starts yapping and jumping all over the place. However, when I tell her to sit she jumps onto the chair and sits. I tell her to get down and she does. Again, I tell her to sit. She jumps up onto the chair and sits. Hello, I want her to sit on the floor not in a chair. Okay, so I did reward her since she did sit.

Zootoo.com - A website that you can get informative pet product reviews, animal services, and pet news and videos on ZooToo.com. All the resources you need for your pet.) Zootoo is having a Animal Shelter make-over. The lucky shelter will win a MILLION DOLLAR make-over. My home town went from the top 950 to 8th place. Since we are in the top 20 shelters all across the states Zootoo came to our town on Thursday to check out the shelter. Community involvement helps get more points to win. I got my butt up and marched to our shelter to help support in winning this shelter make-over.

While waiting for Zootoo come I talked to a Volunteer there and learned that our shelter finds homes for 500 dogs/cats a year. That is a lot. I also learned that a lot of our animals come from Ohio and down south. We are a no-kill shelter. A lady from Ohio that use to own a horse farm kept her horse trailer and installed cages in the trailer and she drives from Ohio to CT to place the dogs at our shelter. Knowing this, I think it is important we do get this make-over so that we can house more animals that are ready to be put to sleep.

With all this being said, I have sponsored a Pit Bull that hasn't been adopted and has been with the shelter for 4 years. I wish I could take him. In addition, I gave $1,000 to the shelter. I am planning on looking into what I can do to help. This is my purpose in life. I connect to animals. I must have been some animal in my previous life.

Adopt an animal or sponsor one if you can't. You are their voice.

Boaz and Judah came from a shelter. They're my sweeties. Lilah, we rescued from a really lousy breeder who allowed inbreeding. We have special needs doggies an dlove them!

Well for one thing the dog needs exercise...that's the first step to calming them down. We have two Wheatens that we walk regularly...it keeps them more laid back and gets us out for a walk...we all win. We had two golden retrievers before them. They're great dogs with good temperament and very smart, however they're a bit more needy and leave a lot of hair around the house. So this time, we went on the net and filled out a form that listed things we liked in a dog and Wheatens were one of them, and they were right...great dogs for us. I suggest every potential dog owner do this. In any case, I suggest you exercise this pup before training, and remember, dogs are pack animals, he may view you as the alpha member of the pack with him secoond in the pecking order so he responds to the rest of the family accordingly. Dogs need a job or outlet, if you have a dog that's there in the house all day and just let in and out, don't be surprised if he starts tearing things up a bit...it'll just be frustration on his part. If you're the only one interested, you have an incredible challenge raising a happy puppy...best of luck!

Both my boyz came from shelters. It's the only way I'd get a dog. Sometimes basic discipline goes a long way. You know, one of those eight-week puppy classes (which actually train the human to train the dog). I notice the difference with my two. The one who had more basic training is better behaved and much better socialized in human terms. Good Luck.
