This has been dressed up a bit for the photo I guess but basically it is typical of what they eat at lunch or dinner.

A few pieces of meat (either chicken or for those who can afford it..some beef cooked in a very spicy (hot) chilli paste served with rice and those little fishy things are what we call white-bait in Australia. They are fried very crispy for about 30 seconds in very hot oil and they are very salty.

Also they seem to really love peanuts and include fried peanuts as a side dish..(thats what those things are next to the fish). They have pickled vegetables like carrot  tomato and little purple onions soaked in vinegar and chilli to accompany the meal...or a plate of stir-fried mixed vegetables....all loaded with heaps of chilli....and fried prawn crackers.

They also eat a big breakfast of rice porridge (which I tried once and I didnt like it at all) of a thick gluggy over-cooked mushy rice which they sprinkle with bits of fried chicken or fish, lots of dried (fried) garlic and shallots, heaps of fresh chillies, strips of omelet and topped off with a thick sweetish/salty soy sauce.

Throughout the day, they snack on either fruits, little glutinous rice cakes which are very sweet or fried (battered) tofu, fried banana or fried sweet potato...all battered.

All these can be bought from (cholera carts) little wagons that come down the street throughout the day. Satay sticks are my favorite.

After eating a few of these meals.....there's nothing like a yummy roast beef or pork or chicken dinner with roast potatoes, baby carrots and gravy....yuuuuuummmm
