My Plants in Jakarta

I love plants. Because I'm not a garderner, I prefer all my plants in pots. They're easier to take care of and I can move them around anywhere I want.

These are the plants I've accumulated here in Jakarta since I arrived back in 2002.

They thrive beautifully in Jakarta heat and humidity.

These are right behind the front gate.

Diffenbacchias grow really well here, as do golden cane palms and ferns, and the Coleus are amazing.

These wrought iron gates are on wheels and you have to roll them back to get the car out of the garage which is right here in front. I dont have a car here...it is too difficult to get it in and out of the garage...the street is so narrow. Taxis are so cheap even with the cost of fuel these days, so it's my preferred mode of transport. And no parking problems which is a nightmare at best.

That's my front door straight into the lounge room.

This is the window right next to the front door, the louvered doors in the background is the garage door. This is a box I got somebody to make for my outdoor strays. I've had a few kittens born in there...lol. and that's a plate of Friskies on the mat for any stray cat who is hungry and looking for something to eat. And of course a bowl of nice clean fresh water too...thats that white round thing next to it.

The windows under the eaves where the aircon unit is...is still the lounge room..it is huge. The whole ground floor area except for the main bedroom and a kitchen is all open lounge/dining area.

I have orchids growing in the balcony upstairs above the lounge...this is what they're like when they're in bloom. Thats the house across the road in the background with a tiny little street between it and my house.

The balcony runs across the whole length of the front of the house and it overlooks the street. That's where I spend a bit of time just watching all activities happening in my little street. This photo is facing the mosque at one end and the next photo is facing the other end of the street.

The window you can see at the end is my office here at home. I do a lot of my work from here.

The window here is to a spare bedroom that I am using as a junk room.

I dont have any photos of the inside of my house. But it is quite big. It has two bedrooms (one with an ensuite bathroom with a proper "western" toilet) and an office uptairs...and right outside my office door is a toilet. Downstairs is the huge lounge/dining area and a kitchen and my bedroom with an ensuite bathroom.

What do you think of my plants...pretty nice, huh? I couldnt grow these plants in Perth
