This is where my avatar pic came from...it was cropped from this photo of my baby orang...well she's not really my baby but I got to be her Mommy for just a little over a week when I visited the Camp Leakey Rehab Centre in Kalimantan.

I thought you might like to see her up close and personal...her name is Alexandra and she was 9 months old when this pic was taken. This is the only pic I have of her here in Jakarta, the rest are down in Perth...next time I go down, I will bring them up and post them here.

She was rescued from poachers in the illegal wild life trade...her mother was shot and she was grabbed to be sold in the pet trade. She was found in a market and brought to Camp Leakey totally traumatized.

 

She wore disposable diapers and loved her bottles which she had every 3 or 4 hours.

There were heaps of females with infants roaming free around the camp and as long as I was holding Alexandra, I was able to walk around among them. I guess to them I was just another Mommy orang with my own baby, so they didnt have to protect their babies from me.

I had a very difficult time saying goodbye to her after a week, but will remember the experience for the rest of my life.

She cried like a baby, giggled like a baby, played like a baby..and although she was traumatized she still had moments of pure fun. She loved poking her tongue out at me..that was her favorite trick...lol

She loved being cuddled because she missed her mommy so badly.
