The Best Job I Ever Had Part 3

Thursday morning....I hadnt had enough sleep...I couldnt stop thinking about how close I was to going to Disneyland. I was agonizing about being disappointed if this last ditch effort failed.
I didnt know what time Jodie (my new potential recruit) would be calling...she's a school teacher so I knew she would be in class by 8.30am...if she didnt call before, she might call me on her lunch break.
My headache was coming back...I could feel it. For almost 9 months, I worked my butt off....neglected my house-work, neglected my poor, wonderful, supportive, ever-loving husband. More than half the Managers had already achieved their trip....I was one of two baby Managers that was so close....but yet so far.....I had already pretty much accepted the fact that this was not to be....but it's like fate is playing this stupid game and it was driving me nuts!!!
I phoned Linda (my distributor) at 9.30am and she had just gotten off the phone with Tupperware HQ in Sydney. She didnt tell them what was going on with me,  she just asked them for clarification of the rules.....meaning to say if she could find a way to bend it if she could...legally....so I could make the trip, she would.
Anyway, it turned out that a recruit is a recruit...and as long as there were 6 parties under her belt before the 3rd week in March, I was on that plane.
I thanked her and now all I had to do was wait for Jodie to phone me.
Thursday mornings are very busy for Managers...it is reporting time...that is, all your dealers in your team who held parties in that week, had to report their parties, sales, and party bookings which had to be faxed to the office before 11am that morning. The phone calls started and my team phoned me one or two at a time....I had a quick chat to them, but I couldnt focus.....I wanted my phones free in case Jodie called.
By lunchtime, I had finished everything I had to do...so I waited and waited and waited. By 1.30pm I thought, that was it...she was not going to call...its all off....and it was just not meant to be after all.
Allan came home, worried about me...and wanting desperately to be there if I got that disappointing phone call. He was only too aware of how hard I worked in the last 9 months and he knew how devastated I was feeling.
At 4pm, it was time for me to get ready for the sales meeting that night....and I have to tell you, I didnt want to go!! But I knew that my team was going to be recognized that night for an outstanding week...and I couldnt let them down.
They too worked their butts off to help me achieve this because it is also a team achievement.....in as much as a personal one for me. I promised them heaps of souvenirs from Disneyland and postcards from Hollywood.....90210 was very popular back then....and a postcard with that zip code stamp was something they really wanted....and of course the pride and accolades they would receive as a "Qualified Team"....and Tupperware had a special gift for them if the team made it.
I didnt know whether to phone Jodie or wait until she called me......by the way, I never told her that my trip was hanging in the balance and she was the tipping point. I wanted to, desperately....but then I thought, I dont know her very well, what if she decided she wouldnt do it just so I dont get to go??? You never know with people you havent known for more than a day or two...do you??

Just as I was ready to leave that evening, the phone rang....I felt sick!!! Allan answered it and it was Jodie. She apologized for not calling earlier, but she hadnt had time to discuss it with her husband until he came home from work that afternoon. Then she went on to tell me where he worked, what he did, what he had for lunch, what time he came home, and a million other things and I was going nuts!!!!!!!
Finally she said..."I suppose you want to hear the good news??".....of course as soon as she said good news...I knew....lol.
I asked her if she would like to attend our Sales meeting that night and I would introduce her to the team...and I told her that having qualified me for the Incentive trip, she was going to get a very special gift from Tupperware too. I also had to explain to her that those five parties had to be done before the second or third week in March....preferably the second (just to make sure...lol) and she said she'd already booked two of them in for the next weekend and the other three she could do on weeknights.
She came to the sales meeting that night, she was very pleased with her new team...she loved our team name...Serendipity...and she was raring to go.
On the 9th of April 1999....I was walking into Disneyland....and all my childhood dreams had come true.
This story has a rather sad ending....I dont know if I want to write the final chapter....it ended when Allan died very suddenly on the 3rd of August 2001.....and my whole world collapsed.
