And the Rains Came

Beginning late last night, continuing through yesterday and still coming down, the rains have caused much distress across Southern Illinois and Missouri. As for myself, I live on a hill, but the once pastures and fields surrounding me have become great lakes. Hopefully today the rain will lessen and the water will begin to recede.

Rain lingers....
Rainfall has become a bit lighter and more scattered early this morning....but it looks as though we will continue to experience periods of precipitation...occasionally heavy...through at least mid-day or early afternoon as the weakening upper low now moving into SW Arkansas lifts northeastward. As of 4:00 a.m. the KFVS rain gauge has recorded 12.90 inches of rain with this event.
Flood Watches are mostly due to expire at 7:00 a.m.....unless they are extended.
Otherwise today will be a chilly and blustery day..with stiff north winds and temps held in the 40s and low 50s...though things may start to improve by evening as the system moves off to the northeast.

I can relate. This happened last spring here in Oklahoma. We just never seem to get anything in moderation; it's either feast or famime.

On the radio this morning, this flood was compared to our flood of '06. That pic up top looks similar. The rain has started here, but we'll be Ok as long as it keeps moving. Good luck to you and your neighbors.

WOW!!! That is close to the area where some of my relatives live. Well in the western part of Kentucky. We have flooding like that here too. We have had another gully washer. We got 5 to 6 inches here the past day and two nights. It is windy and 40 degrees cooler here. Went from 80's using the A/C to 40's using heater now.

You guys got a lot more rain than we did. We have been getting significant rains just about every week here lately and one of those weeks we had 3 inches of rain and then it snowed twice and ended up with several inches of snow too. That north wind is blustery. Stay safe and warm Angie.
