Its a Wrap Grab Your Vagina and Get Home!

Ok where do I start? Well last year the day after the show I wrote a piece called "Confessions of the Anti-Vagina". This was my point of view last year. I felt like a band of wild feminist had held me captive and pushed vagina right down my throat. I also was proud that I was able to step outside myself and perform some of the most edgy and controversial material anyone could have ever dreamed of, while sad that the role of women in our society is exploited and confused.

The show was fantastic this year. Men equaled women in the audience. Both nights ended in a standing ovation and I was told my part Reclaiming Cunt was powerful and the best that many have ever seen. It made me feel so validated and confident. I had put a lot of time re hashing this difficult part to bring it to full potentional. It caused stress that led to my unreasonable out burst number five and six of the year. Oh yeah and "Hair" it went well. I hated every last second of it, but the audience was kind and enjoyed it.

I had several people show up this year to see me perform. One being my boss. She sat front row center and afterwards she was aw struck and loved the show. She came to both shows and said it was one of the best things she has ever seen. My sister Moses and one of my childhood friends came and had a great time. They walked out with a new confidence of being a woman decorated in Vagina Warrior pins and boas. Not everyone felt this way.

My friend Ruth has had enough of vagina's already. She said it was just too harsh and shocking. She does not want to think about some of the stuff in the monologues like rape and abuse of women. She is a survivor and said it is just too raw and she could not handle another year of it.

We sat last night after the show with her daughter and her daughter’s boyfriend who had tagged along. He is a twenty something year old kid who was really shocked and overwhelmed. He said "No wonder you ladies are always walking around pissed, you have a monster between your legs." He was so shocked at the language. The word vagina ringing out over and over again can disturb some. I told him I understand what he is saying. It is shocking stuff for some young male to hear. Men are so used to never ever hearing the word vagina being said out loud by we aren’t going to take anymore crap women. The word vagina is strong and blunt. He described the show as being slapped in the face with a pussy. An angry pussy that had a new meaning and power that scared him. It was very intimidating for him to hear women discuss sexuality and womanhood in an open honest fashion.

He described it as a monster between our legs. When the truth of the matter is it is the gateway to life. He is a victim of our society’s media showing pussy as cheap and abundant for male pleasure. He is not alone all of us that tune in know that vagina has been cut down to discount prices. There is no shame in giving the milk away for free anymore. It is a fire sale and all must go! Our daughters see this and think that their only worth is a clearance item hidden between their legs and boys think they have some sort of right to the cheap stuff and can take it when ever they want.

It is funny too me that all of us in this society find it so easy to discus cock and balls. The mans penis is a symbol of power and control. It rolls off the tongue so easily, while vagina chokes us and scares us. Honestly ladies I can admit I have described the mans penis and balls in detail to some friends while having a light hearted conversation, but have never ever described my vagina to anyone! I even have to close my eyes in shame during my annual pap smear.

The Vagina Monologues are not for everyone. It cuts threw the bull shit with a dull blade that can hurt as it slowly tears threw our minds. It is blunt and loud! You are left one of two ways shocked and intimidated or empowered and aware. I will do it again next year. It has changed a little piece of me and makes me feel good about being a woman with a voice that can scare some, while it comforts and unites others. Thanks for reading!

I've told you this before but will say it again, I loved it when I saw the HBO special that was done. Really opened my eyes. I wish I could have seen you alls version of it. Glad to hear that the "hair" piece went well. Were you nervous like before?

I think a big part of people being uncomfortable is most people don't talk about their bodies. People act like a woman's body is some deep, dark secret. But I do believe that if a woman was raped or abused, I do think hearing it talked about so openly would just bring it all back and be hard to take. I'm proud of you hun, you did good.
