Not Doing Much of Anything

Yesterday afternoon I attended the my first Family Readiness Group (FRG) meeting for the National Guard. The woman who has been in charge of it for a few years or so is leaving with the unit and is looking for someone/anyone to take over the reigns so Da Man's new unit will have a FRG.
I showed up with a Pampers box filled with loaves of pecan swirl coffee bread that I had prepared for them to sell at a bake sale and paper and pen. What was missing in that equation? Ah ha! The girls! The girls were missing. I was able to leave the house to do something totally grown up without the girls. How cool was that? Of course, I stood up and announced that I had to leave at 3:20 (three hours after I had left the house) because I knew mom was more than ready for me to come home and take back the responsibility that was rightfully mine. *roll eyes*
Anyway, I'm kicking around the idea of getting involved when the new unit is in place. I think it would be a wonderful way for to show Da Man that I do and will support what is left of his military career, for one. I am going to research it a good bit first before I make a decision. I am surprising myself with doing the responsible thing and finding out exactly what will be expected of me before I dive in; a novel approach that is for me. Ha.
Last night I went to the VFW with Da Man. They were having a ceremony for the officers who were leaving. I drank two Miller Lites, Da Man had a quart of beer. I couldn't believe what a head buzz I got from two beers. Gosh, I've changed. *snort* Anyway, I sat with Da Man and talked with a couple of the officers. It was quite nice, and neither Da Man nor I could remember the last time we had gone anywhere together without the girls. I drove home because the quart bottle of Bud had gotten the best of him. I've made an old man out of him. *smile*
Speaking of old, I will be 37 next month. Wow. I have been getting notifications that people are looking for me on Classmates.com because my 20th *gulp* high school reunion is coming up next year. When the hell did that happen, twenty years since graduation? Unbelievable. I don't know whether or not I'm going to go. I don't hang out on classmates.com. For some reason I have no desire to mingle with the people from so far ago in my past. Maybe it's because I have done nothing that was expected of me, and I feel a bit ashamed. I suppose I could rev up my resume' for the occasion, but I don't have a desire to do that either. I can say that not only am I surprised by the way things have turned, but the entire world is/will be. And that's because I didn't turn out to be anything spectacular, you know; I've simply turned out, and the spectacular was always expected of me.
It's a very dark and gloomy day here. It has looked as if it has been going to pour down the rain at any minute now for hours. I had big plans. I was going to put Mak down and either clean house or clean up what is left of my flower garden. And yet here I sit, not owning the want to do anything but sit.
Hopefully something will spur me off my ass. Then again....

I think I will go to my next reunion. I skipped the ten year, but I joined facebook and it's like a freakin reunion!!! It's kinda cool to see how people ended up and such... almost everyone has kids! How strange!

Wait until all of a sudden it's 30 or 40 years since you graduated. Everyone looks so old (but not you of course).
