Year in Review: Jazz Mama

Sue's post reminded me of one our unplanned summer projects where I reached up on a shelf to a large cooking pot that turned out to be full of rusty water that had come from a roofing leak. We were lucky the pot was there to catch most of the water, but that straightening up project turned into several weeks of structural repairs.

Mr. Troutbend and cousin Mike spreading out a big sheet of rubber to cover up any possible leaks where the roof goes from peaked to flat.

It's a cute little cabin, and I am hoping now it is snug and dry for good.

This is the cabin I want the Mister to put Christmas lights on next summer so I can take a picture of it during the first good snow. I'll try to find some cute lamps or those electric candles to put in the windows so it will look lived in.

The scenery there makes up for all the problems.

Looks so cozy. Just don't put one of those humongous, inflatable, plastic Santas on the roof.

I'm thinking some of those icicle lights, or maybe old-fashioned big ones (because I have a bunch of those) and that might match the old feel of the place.

That is a darling cabin. What does the sign say?

Jazz Mama. It was built in the 1930s. There was a Jazz Papa just like it on the other side of the yard, but it washed away in the big 1976 flood. Jazz Mama was high and dry.

It is really cute and will look great with candles and lights.

I'm excited about fixing it up next summer so it will look homey from the outside for my picture. Now I'm sorry I wouldn't take you in there when you visited, but it was really full of boxes then. It's still got a lot of stuff, but easier to move around in.

I was surprised to find an under the kitchen counter brush "bucket" full of water the other day. Yep, crack in sink drainer. I fixed it.

I keep water catchers under all my sinks now just in case.

That is a very cute cabin! What a coincidence that I just blogged about a roof due to your suggestion to me.

I'm looking forward to the day when your neighbors discover the great outdoors like you predicted.
