Our Woodpile

This is our woodpile. It looks like a glacier, doesn't it?

Most of the wood is at least 30 years old. There are pieces of lumber from torn-down farm buildings, cottonwood trees from the farm, and trees from around this property. A lot of it looks to be a little too wide for the fireplace, so we'll have to cut it in half before using it, if we ever get around to it.

These are pieces of a large mountain juniper we cut down last year. It's interesting how the core had rotted. We need to cut them down wherever we can because in a forest fire they ignite like a match.

I saw lots of "faces" in the woodpile. It's the way I see.

I hadn't thought of that - like a Bev Doolittle painting. They could be the past owners of that parcel, there are some good stories there.

30 years old and it hasn't rotted away? I don't remember seeing it.

It's on the other side of the Brown Palace next to the red trailer. The big cliff dwarfs it.

yup, thats a lot of wood. The only thing I like about winter is the fire in the fireplace.

It's fun when the wood burns merrily along, not so much when it requires constant attention. Some of our wood doesn't burn so well, but the 30-year old probably does.

It looks like a lifetime supply, since you spend your winters in Las Vegas.

More than a lifetime. There was a renter here for a couple of winters and he put a big dent in the side of it.

wow that looks like a lifetime supply for my Dad! He doesn't like to put much wood on the fire for some reason.

It's quality, not quantity that counts, that's probably what he's thinking.

I have been "dreaming" of coming out your way for a week or so. Would enjoy staying with you and sitting on my bench. But alas, I have no one to leave my sister with, and she cannot stay alone all those hours. Anyway, I can dream. Nena

I'll run over there and turn down the bed so put that in your dream.

Watch out for nasty reptiles in the wood pile!
comment by jondude on Aug 10, 2010 5:40 AM ()
More danger of coming across assorted rodents there. When we had mink running around here some of them stayed in the wood pile.
