Home & Garden > Fall?

Fall?

Hard to tell, because we are getting a rain shower every afternoon with dark clouds, but it seems like the days are getting shorter, and 5 p.m. looks and feels like it is much later. When we get a breeze it feels a little crisp, like fall is here already, or almost here.

My zucchini plant has responded to this by stopping production; the leaves are turning yellow, and some of my potato plants are turning yellow as if harvest time is near. The tomatoes, on the other hand, are having a great old time blooming and there are some nice medium-sized green tomatoes. Today I discovered a ripe cherry tomato tucked up in the leaves. I waved it at the green ones so they could see what they are shooting for, not that they care.

I can see the leaves on the aspen are fading, getting ready to turn to gold.

The wild cherries along the river bank are ripe and plentiful. They are a smaller cherry, so the seed seems to dominate, but they have a flavor between sweet and sour.

I want to run outside in the afternoon and yell 'stop, stop! too soon for the sun to set! Summer not over!'

Our weather was cooler last fall than usual and earlier than usual. I
would like for it to get here. This triple digit heat is a killer.

Las Vegas had 45 straight days of 100 degrees plus temps, but that wasn't what set the record for hottest month ever, it was that none of the nights got much below 85 degrees.

The shadows are definitely longer, and the night are more often chilly than not. But the summer squash are still going nuts! We blanched and froze nine or ten bags this afternoon with plenty more on the way. Spring came in April, so there's nothing to complain about, we had 5 nice outdoor months so far! Not bad for Delaware county!

Maybe the weather is beginning to change. I biked today at 5, and it wasn't so bad, although all season, it has been scorching even at that hour. Your pix are great.
