Sweater Project Completed

I have been working on this sweater for a couple of years. I had it half done then ripped it all out and started again because the original plan was to use two different weights/compositions of yarn - one was silk and wool, and one was all silk, wool, and cotton. I thought since it is done in patches this would work out, but when I started on the front after finishing the back I realized the heavier yarn was going to sag and there was a big block of it along the hem line, so that was going to be a problem.

Another challenge was the sizing because this was a different weight yarn than the instructions specified, so I had to figure that out. I finished the back for the second time and realized the size was going to be wrong, so I ripped it all out and started over once again. If I had been knitting the sweater to give as a gift, I would have kept going and found a smaller person to give it to than the original lucky recipient, but since it was for me, that wasn't an option.

Live and learn, no harm done. And I sure got a lot of practice.

The whole reason for this particular project was to use up yarn left over from a previous project, but I was worried about not having enough, so bought more, and now of course I have a bunch left over. Maybe I'll knit a small sweater to give away, or several scarves and matching hats for gifts.

That is beautiful. Looks like it would be fun to knit, sounds like it was quite a project. I am always nervous using yarns other then what the pattern called for but you made it work. Just in time for fall.

It was a painful process because the gauge was a lot different on this finer yarn. I learned a lot, though, in the process, such as the number of inches around my rear is the number of inches the front and back of the sweater need to add up to, and I can figure out how many stitches that would be when I know how many stitches there are per inch. Elementary, and every book talks about it, but I had to experience it for myself in order for it to sink in.

It just looks like autumn. Now you need to knit another in shades of blue and lavender to show off your pretty blue eyes.

Blue and purple would be pretty together. I'm working on a scarf while I think about what to do next.

Who knew you had to be a mathematician to knit?
Glad you got through it and that it turned out so nicely.

My mother-in-law gave me an excellent knitting book that goes into all that math stuff, but it didn't make sense until I had a couple of sweaters done. Now it is starting to make sense, but I have a ways to go.

Kewl. A sampler sweater. It looks great! I love the colours.

Remember when I was looking for the pattern for that ribbed part? And bought a couple of patterns from Mary Maxim for sampler sweaters but they were all charted, no words, so I didn't use them.
