The Visitor

I'm taking care of this cat for a friend. It showed up at her house and was living under her neighbor's hot tub. Jane went between the two houses to take food to it, and when she had to leave town for a week she didn't want to hire someone to feed it because the neighbors probably wouldn't like strangers poking around in their back yard.

It is living on my screened porch until Monday and seems reasonably happy, although probably bored. I go out every hour or so and sit with it. I thought it might like to spend some time in the house where it's warmer, but kitty prefers the porch. There is no chance that we would keep it, Jane will have to find a real home for this cat.

We are having a rainy day. It rained steadily through the night, and has slacked off some, but will probably rain some more before the storm moves out tomorrow.

There are more birds at the feeders because of the rain. I have a nice fire and am wearing cold weather clothes. Although it's bad for tourism, I'm glad for this rain. I mowed the lawns yesterday, perfect timing, and now they will green up.

What a pretty kitty. Was it in mid-blink when you took the photo or has it overdosed on catnip?
comment by nittineedles on June 12, 2010 10:59 PM ()
Mid blink. When it's going to attack the pupils are larger.

Lost our cat 2 weeks back just- must have met with accident cant find it anywhere. its pouring cats and dogs here at present-- LOVERLY --
TOURISM ?---do you have different rates for on season --off season like they have here ---can cost $60 a week extra at some parks

I'm sorry to hear about your cat, Kevin, hope it comes home soon.

We only rent during the season and I don't adjust the rates based on the calendar. I always knock $5 or $10 off what I show on the website for return customers and people I knew before they came here I give deep, deep discounts.

She is a pretty cat. Too bad her kitty social skills are so poor. One of my sisters had a feral cat that lived in the garage and on the back porch who was just like this one. Never knew if she would accept touch or bite and scratch. The birds are beautiful! Too bad there are few hummingbirds in Florida but I can't complain. We have tons of bird varieties her.

I'm glad to know that because it will make me feel better about this cat's chances of a good life to come once it gets placed in a new home.

It can take months or longer to get a cat used to not being schizzy after living in the wild or after coming out of a shelter. Brunswick was around 2 when we got him from a shelter. He was traumatized from being bounced around and never purred. He's now the sweetest thing and doesn't make any trouble any more and purrs up a storm. Chew was 18 months in a shelter cage and couldn't sit still when you petted him. He has finally calmed down and knows he is "home". Max is only bonded to me and only when he feels like it. Maybe in another year he'll get over being bipolar. Hope you find Marmalade a good home.

I'm so glad this cat isn't my problem. It's leaving on Monday and then my friend Jane has to find a home for it. She was hoping we'd bond and I'd want to keep it, but no way. I'll tell her about your experience so she will have a hope things will work out for the cat. Buddy the Interstate Cat is coming home Monday and he will rule the roost for the rest of the summer.

calicos are always girls and girl cats are more tempermental than the guys.
Hope she gets a good home.

I had just spent 15 minutes with that cat on my lap and it was so sweet, and then when it got down it attacked my leg. Maybe it gets to thinking about things that happened to it in the past and gets cranky.

Our cold weather is good for keeping down the forest fire danger, so that's a good side to it.

Beautiful face! Lots of love and patience will turn her around. Hopefully she will find a loving home and settle down. I can't believe you have so many hummingbirds on your feeders. Mine has been our for two weeks and I have not had the first visitor yet. Hard to believe you are wearing cold weather clothes. The temperature here today is 97°; no breeze, just HOT.

I keep thinking somewhere in this country it is hot and people are drinking lemonade, I guess that it must be you.

BTW, I saw your IM last night on FB but you had already signed off by the time I tried to reply.

Someone around here was bemoaning the fact that by the time we start getting real summer weather June will have been lost to us. I hadn't thought of it that way, sounds a little bit sad.

Great Calico face! Marmalade is a good name. I had a feral tricolor who came to live with me that I gave that name. She was female and very pretty. Turned into a great homegirl.
comment by jondude on June 12, 2010 11:53 AM ()
That's a good name. I'll tell Jane. This cat is aggressive: everything is fine and then she's biting and scratching. I'm afraid to reach out toward her with my hand because I don't know what mood she'll be in. Maybe she'd be okay once settled into a permanent home.

That's a pretty cat.
comment by kitchentales on June 12, 2010 11:50 AM ()
It sure is. I like that combination of colors in a cat.
