Superman

Over the past four days Mr. Troutbend has:

Dug a pit and arranged 3 inches of pea gravel in it, and it's level. We call it The Grave. It is the base for a standby generator that we will need if there are wildfires in the area or power outages for other reasons.

Moved a huge old 1950s propane tank (those old ones are heavier) to the required spot to meet building code clearances. It's on a slope, so he had to use math to figure out how deep to dig the holes for the support blocks based upon the degree of slope and the distance between the feet. All did not go smoothly, but it finally came together.

Yes, it's ugly as sin. It's been behind the garage for 30 years. Some paint will improve it, but it'll still be big and ugly, like putting lipstick on a pig.

THEN, I discovered that the little Jazz Mama storage building has a leaking roof so he dug out the rubber rolled roofing his cousin (who works for a roofing manufacturing company) gave us a couple of years ago, and they got it up there on the roof ready to be anchored somehow.

Fortunately, my 'precious treasures' and vast (inherited) fabric collection were not damaged. There just happened to be a large cooking pot on the shelf right under where the leak was and it caught most of the water.

He was stung by a wasp in the course of this project so while he waited for them to settle down he repaired a hole in the sprinkler pipe that the beavers chewed last summer.

And right now he's installing a new toilet in the upstairs bathroom.

Whew!

P.S. I forgot: Friday the septic guy came and located the access port at the Brown Palace - 2 feet underground. He and his wife dug it out, but Mr. Tbend had to load all that dirt into the wheelbarrow and haul it away, took him a couple of hours. We're going to put a riser on the port so it doesn't have to be dug out for servicing next time.

I showed him the picture of your generator for inspiration.

A big white shark? A big white raccoon? Get jondude and let him paint a landscape!

I wish he was here to do that. His animals on things like hats and milk cans are my favorite of all his art.

Catchy title for the patch. Impressed with all your diligence, esp. Mr. T. We have a portable generator in the garage -- it is all set to be moved to the outdoors by one side of the house if it should be needed. We haven't had to do that yet. Ed said, when he got it, we would never be without power again. I couldn't do it on my own -- too tricky.

Remember Murphy's Law of major home power outages: when you need to use the generator, the person who knows the least about it is the only one at home.

I'm impressed! How was the iced tea you were sipping while watching him slave away?

It was pretty good because I have mint in my garden now!

My job was to hand tools and gather them up when all done, plus offer suggestions from outside the box.

Heurrah for Gary. Ted used to be able to do those things. We moved just
in time.

He has done so much this summer, and all I can think about is what if he wasn't able to do it. We might have to sell the place.

Why not paint the tank like a whale or manatee or a hippo????
I am so glad I rent!!!

We're discussing that, but because white is the recommended color for technical reasons, it'd have to be a polar bear.

Mr T is a superman for sure! My DH is a superman too but he is also a perfectionist so it would take him a week to do each one of those jobs.

For some reason he's gotten a lot done this summer, it is the first time he has looked for projects to do, tackled them, and completed them.

Mr. Can Do sure can work up a head of steam and get things done! Wow!

This is unusual for him. His usual pace is to do a project or part of it in the morning, then sit out on the back patio smoking cigars and reading in the afternoon.
