Second Thoughts

Last year an early frost surprised me and killed my tomatoes and petunias. They would have enjoyed several weeks of sunny days if only I'd covered them that one night. So now I'm putting sheets over my beautiful tomatoes every night just in case.

There was a light frost Monday night and I was worried about the pump in the river, so I drained the irrigation system yesterday. It's a big three-hour process. Now our weather has warmed up, with no rain in the forecast, so I'm wondering if I jumped the gun.

It's beautiful here right now, with a hope of rain on Monday or Tuesday.

some of the leaves are beginning to turn here in Cow Snot and the nights are quite cool. Makes it easier to sleep.

The leaves are turning here, but our nights are still fairly warm. All year the seasons were a couple of weeks early, and now I think fall is lagging a little bit, which I'm hoping is the weather pattern getting back to a semblance of normal. The whole front range has been having smoke haze from the fires to the northwest, you should be getting it, too.

Last night was the 2nd frost warning we've had up here. None of the plants on the back patio have been nipped but I did bring in my gardenia plant/bush just in case. When I see pix that you post of the river etc., it reminds me of my back garden & creek - beautiful! I'm waiting now for the maples to change color so I can get out & take pix. Enjoy, it's a lovely time of year. xxx P.S. Good luck with the tomatoes ;)

The river was especially pretty yesterday. I was watching a fly fisherman working his way upstream and a bird was singing away on the bank. I tried to film it, hope it captured the moment.

Yes,they are starting to get psyched up here. They say that the colors are going to be great.
Wished that Jeri and Ted could have make it up here. But she has a lot of problems there.

I'll never forget those couple of years that I lived in central Vermont: the way the setting sun lit up the hills.

Better to be safe than sorry--and you know Mother Nature can get nasty without warning!!! And she can also be beautiful as the picture shows!

My petunias weren't very pretty this year, so I won't be sorry to see a hard frost put them out of their misery.

I remember that tomato you had in a pot last year. You've got some acreage now, could be out there planting potatoes next year.

I'm thinking about how you said it might be a really good year for autumn color up there. There's nothing so pretty as the leaves up in where you live.
