I am going to get my houses put on the state list of historic properties.

The bridge was in a different spot back then. My house is the nearest one, and the Brown Palace has the white trim.

Good luck with your plan ... Although Pine Island (which includes our community) has come a long way since Charlie, I still see dead, stripped trees and stumps as I drive by. But we have recovered for the most part. The root balls of huge trees that were toppled were visible for a long time. That was very upsetting.

Beautiful area ... love your location. Our island is off limits to development because it is a historic district. I'm grateful for that.

That would be very nice because they don't build homes like they used to. The state historical lady was talking about how the way newer homes are built on their lots has changed, to where they are built almost out to the street - no thought to presentation, it's all about huge square footages and indoor living. For that reason, even a 1950s bungalow with a nice front lawn and deep back yard big enough for a vegetable garden and clothesline is worth preserving as historical.

I wish I could declare myself an 'historic propertie'

My main goal is to get your favorite cabin listed and then apply for grants to help us do a really good job restoring it so it will last forever instead of maybe 20 more years.

Seeing beloved landmarks lost in the flood, I treasure our heritage here even more.
