Someone sent me this email today:

Ideal husbands...

While creating Husbands, God promised Women that ideal Husbands would be found in all corners of the world.

And then God made the earth round.

=====

Cleaning the oven: I tried this after my self-cleaning oven didn't any more, and it worked: Sprinkle dishwasher powder on the oven floor and cover with wet paper towels. The next morning it should wipe clean.

=====
I went to Mr. Troutbend's bowling league with him yesterday and everyone was surprised the league secretary wasn't there. The big news was that one of the bowler's car was stolen, including all his bowling equipment, so they talked about that for awhile. Finally they went ahead and bowled without the guidance of the league secretary (he needed to tell them who was supposed to bowl whom for the position round), and someone went to his house to check on him. He was dead, but we don't know any of the details. Sort of put the car theft into perspective.

====

Our weather has finally cooled down to more seasonal temperatures - mid 60s, and the casinos are starting to advertise their upcoming holiday pie giveaway promotions for the locals.

Is the oven that big white thing sitting in the kitchen corner taking up space? Actually, I did use it the other day to make a skillet pizza (a physical disaster, but yummy).

My uncle down at the trading post has a 70 year-old stove and the springs broke in the oven doors so one is held shut via a canning jar ring, and the other by mean of a stick propped against it. Cooking there is an adventure.

I may trade my ideal husband for one who likes to paint.

All summer I looked at the job you know who did on the ceiling at the cabin and thought about touching it up, but never got around to it because I would have had to find the right paint out in the garage.

@ Ideal Husband.

I sit a bowl of ammonia in my oven overnight (and cover it in a plastic bag so the kitchen doesn't smell like Cat Pee Central), and then dump the ammonia in warm water and wipe the crud off like it was melted butter.

@ bowling league

@ weather. You're not in the market for a cat, are you?

Seems like the ammonia trick would be really good for loosening up oven crud on the walls and ceiling. I'll try it next time.

God is full of little tricks like that. It's his "mysterious way" his wonders to perform. I'll clean my oven floor tonight.

I was surprised at how well it worked. Hope it does for you, too.

'Ideal husbands' - love it -

I'm not going to tell it to Mr. Troutbend, he's been closer to ideal lately.

I thought you'd posted a picture of you and Mr Troutbend after your big win.
When I was a teen, my parents belonged to a bowling league. I remember they came home early one night as one of their team had dropped dead of a heart attack while bowling.

We saw a guy break his leg once at bowling; step over the foul line, and oooooopppp-sy.

I'm going to try that oven cleaning trick tonight. My oven is nothing short of disgusting because I almost never clean it.Sort of on my "life's too short" list.

Wow on the dead bowler! Must have made for an interesting league night.

I had this pile of pie juice burnt in the bottom of my oven that I'd put salt on to stop it from smoking and stinking up everything and had planned to not try to clean the oven until I get a new stove in a couple of years, but this did the trick, so now the stove might last three more years. Hah!

Oooh I will have to try the oven cleaner. I have a few sample pkts of dishwasher stuff in my kitchen drawer, lord knows it probably won’t be used in our dishwasher. We both seem to have an aversion to using one. I dunno, there’s something to be said about having your hands in a soapy sink. Besides wrinkly hands.

Yeah. Overshadowed the stolen car bizo huh.

The dishwasher soap has changed and in some parts of the country people are struggling with cloudy dishes, so you're probably better off doing it by hand.
reply by troutbend on Nov 10, 2010 8:22 PM ()
I run my dishwasher every night about 11 p.m. and it looks like I have just entertained an army, the trays crammed full, no room for another thing. Save that one for tomorrow, etc. Dishes by hand? Not if I can help it. Another plus is that by running it on the anti-bacterial setting, all the stuff gets sterilized. I admire your devotion to the old-fashioned way.

Loooove the joke! And great tip for cleaning... That is awful about the league person being dead...
comment by kristilyn3 on Nov 10, 2010 10:22 AM ()
It's a senior league - all over 50, many over 65 - and he was one of the healthier ones, so I'm sure they are all a little shaken up about it.

Looks like a front is coming your way, but gee whiz, it's the time of year for some snow or even a little rain.
